China Phoenix Ancient City, also known as Fenghuang Ancient Town, is a captivating destination nestled in the Hunan province of China. Renowned for its rich history, cultural significance, and stunning architecture, this ancient town offers visitors a glimpse into China's past and a truly memorable travel experience.

Stepping into China Phoenix Ancient City feels like entering a different era altogether. The town is adorned with traditional wooden houses, intricate carvings, and winding cobblestone streets, transporting visitors back in time. The preserved ancient architecture and well-maintained historic sites, such as the Phoenix Tower and the Ancient City Wall, showcase the town's cultural heritage and offer insight into its illustrious past.

One of the highlights of visiting China Phoenix Ancient City is exploring its vibrant culture and traditions. Visitors can immerse themselves in the local way of life by strolling through bustling market streets, sampling authentic Hunan cuisine, and witnessing traditional performances and ceremonies. The town's rich cultural tapestry, with influences from the Miao, Tujia, and Han ethnic groups, creates a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Beyond its historical and cultural significance, China Phoenix Ancient City also boasts breathtaking natural beauty. Nestled along the banks of the Tuojiang River and surrounded by lush green mountains, the town offers picturesque views and opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, and photography. The serene atmosphere and tranquil surroundings make it an ideal destination for relaxation and rejuvenation.

However, while China Phoenix Ancient City offers a truly enchanting experience, it is important to note that its popularity has led to an increase in tourism and commercialization in recent years. As a result, some parts of the town may feel overcrowded or overly commercialized, detracting from the authenticity of the experience. Additionally, visitors should be mindful of preserving the town's cultural heritage and respecting the local customs...

Phoenix Ancient City or Fenghuang Ancient City, is situated in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, in southwest of Hunan Province. I went there by public bus from Zhangjiajie City and took couple of hours.

Going to this city is like seeing the metamorphosis process of a place from green to the colourful and glamorous life. For me this city has 2 kind of different life which are Day and Night.

Upon arrival while it was a day time, this place impressed me by its air of mystery, elegance and primitive simplicity. The world is dominated by the colour green. The mountain slopes are covered with green foliage, the fields are green and even the Tuo Jiang River reflects the greenery. It's so beautiful and classy like the display of harmony life that is so often portrayed in traditional Chinese paintings.

Old men and women with carrying pole sells fruits such as sweet plum, berries, small water melon and some other sell cheap but so beautiful Silver Craft, handicrafts made from the buffalo horn. Some young ladies walk along the riverside with traditional Chinese costume and some tourist wear the Hunan tribes. To have an overall pictures and exploration you can ride a traditional boat cost you about 40 Yuan to visit about 5 free spots and 8 paid spots.

But when the dark comes and turn the day into the night. More than thousand lights suddenly sparks along the both riversides. No more ancient city but only the modern city with cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, and night clubs with noisy house music. Surprisingly this place become a completely difference world between day and night.

Near the stepping stones or under the ancient bridge some people sail the paper boat with candle light and pray for...

It was drizzling when our bus arrived at the Phoenix Ancient Town. In the open Square, stands the Bronze Phoenix Statue.

Many visitors were taking their pictures infront the Hongqiao Bridge. Walking through narrow stone-paved streets and steps, surrounded by rows of shops. There are lots of interesting local food and souvenirs. Many shops to explore, some stayed to try their crispy prawn fritter and stinky tofu.

The Town is lighted up at around 6pm. It is a total different atmosphere during the night & day at Phoenix Ancient Town, but still very commercial.

This picturesque ancient town charms not only with its history, but also with the beauty of its architecture, having lots to see and do.

Many shops providing Miao ethnical clothes for visitors to rent . The whole town is so crowded with visitors. There are plenty of local photographers too, waiting to snap their picture. Most of them with charming rented Miao Costumes and make up pose at the walkway by the Toujiang River.

The atmosphere is extremely magical under the fully illuminated lanterns and lights surrounded by the stunning panaromic views of stilted houses .

The only drawback is the walkway and steps are very narrow, have to be careful, too crowded with people, no cars allowed in, thus a lot of walking to do.

Neverthless its a nice place with history buff, the night views, old buildings and bridges, certainly worth...

An amazingly old and traditional Chinese town that was preserved for more than 200 years. Houses were built from layers of heated brick and have its own style of architecture. The color is not as brightful as expected but still I enjoyed the sight very much. You can rent a boat to enjoy the town's view from the river. You can have up to 10 people per boat. Highly recommended. Along the river bank is old houses, coffee shop and souvenir store and hostel, possibly. Do. Spend at least one night at the town so you can get to know what is like at night. It's like two different world in the morning and at night, when live music and bars are all open. All the lights are well designed and arrange so the houses are like sparkling laterns and light up the whole town. It's often rain here so don't forget to bring the umbrella or raincoat with you. Chinese foods are absolutely worth trying, if you can stand the smell, do try the Smelly Fried Tofu. Also there are sweets made from Red kiwi, Peanut, Sesame and Ginger.
