Read morePhoenix Ancient City or Fenghuang Ancient City, is situated in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, in southwest of Hunan Province. I went there by public bus from Zhangjiajie City and took couple of hours.
Going to this city is like seeing the metamorphosis process of a place from green to the colourful and glamorous life. For me this city has 2 kind of different life which are Day and Night.
Upon arrival while it was a day time, this place impressed me by its air of mystery, elegance and primitive simplicity. The world is dominated by the colour green. The mountain slopes are covered with green foliage, the fields are green and even the Tuo Jiang River reflects the greenery. It's so beautiful and classy like the display of harmony life that is so often portrayed in traditional Chinese paintings.
Old men and women with carrying pole sells fruits such as sweet plum, berries, small water melon and some other sell cheap but so beautiful Silver Craft, handicrafts made from the buffalo horn. Some young ladies walk along the riverside with traditional Chinese costume and some tourist wear the Hunan tribes. To have an overall pictures and exploration you can ride a traditional boat cost you about 40 Yuan to visit about 5 free spots and 8 paid spots.

No more ancient city but only the modern city with cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, and night clubs with noisy house music. This picturesque ancient town charms not only with its history, but also with the beauty of its architecture, having lots to see and do.
Many shops providing Miao ethnical clothes for visitors to rent . The whole town is so crowded with visitors. There are plenty of local photographers too, waiting to snap their picture. Most of them with charming rented Miao Costumes and make up pose at the walkway by the Toujiang River.
The atmosphere is extremely magical under the fully illuminated lanterns and lights surrounded by the stunning panaromic views of stilted houses .
The only drawback is the walkway and steps are very narrow, have to be careful, too crowded with people, no cars allowed in, thus a lot of walking to do.
Neverthless its a nice place with history buff, the night views, old buildings and bridges, certainly worth...
