Last week, I dined at the popular barbecue chain, Xita Lao Tai Tai. Each table has a dedicated server to grill the meat, and we were lucky to have Lily, who shared the heartwarming story behind the restaurant's name. The founder, Li Lianhua, is a 70-something Korean-Chinese lady who started selling grilled skewers from a cart near Xita Daguanyin Temple in Shenyang back in 1997. Her unique seasoning skills and traditional clay oven grilling quickly gained her a local following. Even now, at nearly 80 years old, she remains at her Shenyang Xita location. The restaurantโ€™s specialty is traditional clay oven charcoal grilling, preserving the natural flavors of the meat. Different cuts and types of meat are paired with distinctive seasonings like "Korean dry seasoning," "secret spicy sauce," "sweet sesame sauce," and "barbecue sauce," enhancing the taste even more. They also strictly control the freshness and quality of their meat. Their popular items include diaphragm, pork belly, small ribs, and fresh cuts. The best part is having a personal grill master โ€“ Lily, in our case โ€“ to handle all the grilling. The meat was perfectly cooked, neither underdone nor overcooked. This experience definitely deserves a five-star rating.
