Praises:||The hotel lobby is impressive with live piano music and spacious interiors. It seems quite upmarket with expensive looking shops and restaurants on the ground floor. ||||The breakfast was adequate with a mix of Western and Oriental dishes. It turned out to be the best among some 5 hotels during our trip around Fujian Province.There were even signs on each guest table to exhort diners to keep their voices down for the comfort of all present. Unfortunately, it took only one male guest shouting into his hand phone to spoil the whole ambiance of peace and quiet. Maybe the reception of cellphones in China is bad.||||Complaints:||1. We were placed in a triple share room but there was no 3rd rollaway bed and no 3rd set of towels and toiletries. (other hotels in the trip were prepared for 3 persons)||2. the door chain on our room door was broken! so much for Chinese maintenance. Thankfully, we were safe from break-ins...

Read moreThough marketed as a 5-star hotel and given it's past grandeur, my family and I were totally underwhelmed during our stay. We booked a total of 4 rooms and the rooms looked old and rundown. One of them came with a leaking toilet, while the other had not been cleaned despite us checking in after 2pm. What was worse was the electricity outage on the final morning of our stay where the lifts in the lobby were not working and everyone had to access the emergency exit and squeeze into the lifts. Overall, it was a less than satisfactory stay. The hotel is in need of a serious upgrade. You will probably get better value staying in other hotels in Shantou for the...
