I would not recommend San Andres in general, despite its beautiful beaches and nature. The main issue lies with the people in charge of the island who are managing it poorly. Their sole focus seems to be on extracting money from tourists, regardless of the consequences. We were overcharged multiple times during our visit. In one instance, at the location known as “El Acuario,” we were asked for extra money even before reaching the small islands. Later, when we were eating some food for my family, which includes my parents with dietary restrictions, the person running the only shop on the island rudely insisted that they sell sandwiches there as well. When my parents, who were sitting on some stairs behind that shop the same person ordered us to leave in a disrespectful manner. It is evident that they exploit tourists, particularly at El Acuario, which is isolated and makes every visitor susceptible to such mistreatment. We left San Andres truly...
Read morethe acuario itself is stunningly beautiful! Cristal clear water and the swimming bridge is a Highlight too. But there are way too many people, it's unbelievably crowded by tourists and the locals made a thing out of it and everybody wants to sell you something (I understand, they have to earn money somehow but the whole experience was not relaxed and enjoyable through all those points) You feel like a fish in an aquarium yourself. If you want to visit I would recommend three things : Bring watershoes (sea urchins and stones) Don't book a full day there! (We stayed one hour and it was enough for our nerves) Try to leave your valuables at home, you can rent a locker there for 10k cop but they don't seem that trustworthy (mostly broken and demolished...
Read moreDO NOT GO. Biggest tourist trap. Felt more like a festival than a cute little island. I wish I had read the reviews in advance. While the water and island in itself are gorgeous, this place is completely overrun. This is the clearest case of over-tourism that I’ve ever witnessed and I’m ashamed to have contributed. The place was black of people and it’s so stressful to be there.
Moreover, you end up paying way more than the actual price of the tour. 50k for the tour. But then just before departure, you need to pay 3k more. Then just before arriving on the island, pay 10k more. We did not understand why we needed to pay these extra fees. When on the island, if you want to snorkel, you need to pay 20k for mask, 20k for water shoes and 10k...
