Castle Salgar — Attraction in Atlántico

Great views of the Atlantic, nice drinks at the museum, facilities a little lacking. But a great place to visit, great photos to be taken and it's free too... BUT:

Don't walk alone or even in a pair (unless you are both pretty tough looking!) from the bus to the castle, especially after sunset. Two lads on a motorbike were robbing people on that quiet road the day we went, this is verified and locals in the town nearby will confirm this...

Hopefully this doesn't put you off but be careful. The road isn't super long but is very quiet in spots and you're unlikely to get any of the houses to answer if you're in distress.

The place is best reached by car, though you can get a bus from Kra 54 / Buenavista (make sure it's the one that goes to Pradomar... the yellow Puerto Colombia bus)

Worth a stop just for the ocean views provided, really stunning. The cliffs give an amazing view of the ocean and waves crashing on the shore. It's really windy at the castle, and you can feel and taste the salt spray on windy days. If you have little children, keep them close as the access to the cliff is unguarded and could be quite dangerous for unsupervised small children. The castle is being converted to a mall and is not presently open. If it does open, would be an amazing venue for the views alone. Highly recommend seeing the castle. The entrance is gated, but...

Si te gustan los lugares históricos este está lleno de historias increíbles con una vista aún más increíble. En ocasiones se puede entrar y recorrer los pasillos y patio interior. Aún que este cerrado el lugar es muy bonito de caminar y de vislumbrar.

Recomendaciones y ssugerencias:

Llevar protector solar, gorra, gafas oscuras o algo para protegerse del sol, pues la cantidad de radiación es ridícula al punto de cegar un poco a los visitantes. Llevar bastante agua, estoy queda sobre la costa caribe, en un lugar donde para llegar a la tienda más cercana hay que ir en carro. Llevar comida ligera o botanas. Este es el spot perfecto para hacer un día picnic con amigos o familiares. No olviden llevarse la basura con ustedes. Llevar un celular o cámara para tomar muchas fotos. Este es el lugar perfecto para hacer una pequeña sesión de fotos Instagrameables. Si te gusta leer, un buen libro sería perfecto, pues hay una especie de camino de ladrillos caído que dan contra las olas del mar. La soledad en este punto es perfecta para leer. Ten cuidado pues el viento es fuerte y el espacio es apenas suficiente para sentarse y caminar con precaución. Si tienes mascotas, puedes llevarlas siempre y cuando recojas sus desechos. El castillo cuenta con parqueadero propio y es gratuito.

En este espacio es posible disfrutar de la tranquilidad, del viento, del sol y de algunas aves ocasionales que bajan descansar en sus pastizalws o de los cangrejos que salen con el vaivén de las olas que chocan con las piedras del peñasco.
