I was going to leave 2 stars, but read you had pay for banos' aquarious was way better. We sat in a chair and they wanted 45,000 COP. I dont feel bad leaving 1 star since there are a bunch of 5 star reviews to be fooled by. You get dropped off, herded to a table, told to order immediately or it's complicated. Food came out for others in 2 seconds? How'd that happen? (It did look good'*update- looked at other reviews- they didn't like their food). Then you're done being on the beach and waiting for your boat to come back. Aquarious had plentiful fishlife, nurseshark, we didn't get to the beach on the right- maybe you have to pay for banos there too. We were just there an hour.
In the end, I recommend Isla de Providencia if you want beaches. I loved the variety of beaches, the accesibility, and the restaurants on the beaches in Providencia. As for johnny cay, I was happy with the beach across from Molino de viento. I'm sorry to those who make a living off Johnny cay' don't think you'll suffer any from...
Read moreA beautiful island that you need to travel by boat from San Andrés. Beaches are beautiful! White sand, palm trees, and clear blue ocean. If you plan to go into the water, bring some water shoes and a snorkel! You wont regret it.
Just an FYI: You will come by boat and getting off the boat is definitely an experience because there is no dock. You jump or they help you off. I thought it was a fun experience, but to some, that might not be.
They definitely have many stalls as you enter the island. Food and trinkets. If you have a good tour guide, which we did, they will give you a layout of dos and don'ts of the island. Yes, things will be more expensive on the island. If you want to use the bathroom, you have to pay for that as well.
If you want to BBQ on the beach, you can do that. However, the small island offers beautiful sights if you want to explore a bit. There are blue lizards, iguanas just chilling, and beautiful sights if you are willing to...
Read moreThe island is okay. The beach is nice, there are good waves and you can observe fishes on the rocks inside the water. We even saw a manta ray. But the island can get terribly full and the beach is comparibly small, the prices for transfer, food and beach tents are high. Our experience was ultimately shadowed by the unreliable boat transfer. The people who dropped us off the island didnt come to pick us up again and just because our host William was negotiating for us we made it back to the main island, else we would have had to stay overnight o Johnny Cay. We travelled with my husbands old parents, both almost 80. The people who took us back were really rough, I hurt my knee when they were hurling us onto the boat like sacks of potatoes, my husband fell in the water because they weren't willing to wait for him to get into the boat as the last person. These people have never heard of good service and I hope bad mouth propaganda will damage these...
