Cueva de los guacharos, Jardín Antioquia — Attraction in La Salada

(Guacharo/ 7 Cascadas Info 12/2021) How to do it and how to get there.

First: Even if you take first a guided tour jeep up and then go down, there is lots of difficult and dirty situations. We are experienced mountaineers equipped with good boots and walking poles (not necessary but good support). All difficult spots and river crossings were secured with some ropes.

We did it on our own, going up from Jardin along Escaladera all the way up and returning on the road,and without a guide.

Going up passing several gates (5-6) through farmland. The most difficult parts are just before the Cueva de Los Guacharos (a landslide covered the original trek) and down to the waterfall (5 rope assisted situations which involve real climbing). Total time about 7-8 hours without car Good orientation is a must, many blind tracks going nowhere. We found the Openstreetmap has a very good (offline!) map and the track is mostly very precise.

Beautiful but tough hike! Be prepared for an intense jungle hike with lots of elevation and scrambling using ropes at points. Good fitness required. We did a self-guided clockwise loop. Can be done without a guide using MapsMe. Waterfall Guacharos is very special and well worth the scramble down (see photos). Initial farm with German Shephard can be rounded (don't need to go through!) An annoying women is waiting by a locked gate after the last waterfall demanding payment to unlock the gate. We got randomly charged 16 000 COP each to be released but the amount varies based on whim. Annoying as you have gone too far to turn back by that point. The women is cold, uncaring and you don't even get a token sweet or coffee for your cash! Luckily this type of meanness we found to be very much the exception...

La cueva de los Guacharos es un lugar ubicado en el municipio de Jardín Antioquia, para ir a la cueva debes contratar un Guia que te llevara desde el parque principal del municipio de Jardín hasta la cueva, (hay varias agencias alrededor del parque principal de Jardin, que te ofrecen el tour) el recorrido consiste en tomar un carro que te lleva unos 45 minutos hasta donde acaba la carretera y comienzas a caminar por un camino estilo trocha, durante una 1:30 a 2 horas más o menos, hasta la cueva. al principio el camino es tipo trocha luego hay que ir por unos senderos donde te puedes agarrar con cuerdas que han sido instaladas por los personas del lugar, para al final llegar a la cueva, en el lugar no están los guácharos solo van en temporadas, pero si corres con suerte puedes verlos, pero aún y sin los guácharos, el lugar es muy bonito una gran caída de agua, sobre rocas muy limpia el agua, te puedes bañar allí aunque es un poco frío, en el tour te dan el almuerzo, la guia y el transporte desde Jardín, es una visita de todo el día ya que por los recorridos y la caminatas se hace largo pero vale la pena, al llegar sientes paz en el lugar, y el camino está lleno de mariposas, plantas hermosas y variadas, cascadas de diferentes tamaños, lo súper recomiendo es hermoso el camino y también la Cueva de...
