Beautiful waterfall with a beach where you can bring picnic chairs and a cooler and spend a whole afternoon. The water is calm and easy to swim in, though there are a couple of tree trunks at the bottom that you may stub your toe on jf you’re not careful while swimming.
BEWARE of the separate entrance into a different parking lot that is run by locals. If you start to see hand-painted signs on the road saying “WATERFALL” or “CATARATA” with an arrow pointing forward onto a dirt path, turn around and look for the alternate entrance. I made the mistake of following these signs and found myself navigating an extremely bumpy dirt road with endless cows that I had to drive through for at least 15-20 minutes before I reached the “parking lot” which was just a dirt lot manned by a few locals trying to make a buck. and then I had to hike down steep dirt path to reach the waterfall.
Only when I reached the waterfall did I realize everyone else took stairs from a separate entrance that was much easier to reach...

Go to the official entrance (people with official cloth and a small house) to pay the entrance. 4000 colones for adults and 2000 for kids. Locals tried to stop us before. But you can just go yourself (locals do). They say it is private area but it is only the area to the right (see sign on the way down) which has been bought to build a hotel. Cross the river, go 10m on a little trail and then up the stairs to the right. You can see the small river and the waterfall from above. Note, the locals are very...
Read moreBeautiful. Scenery 5 Stars, Vibe 2 Stars. There seems to be some issues between the local parks system and the local residents. Hopefully this resolves soon. Had a guy flag us down when we turned off of pan-american highway with a clipboard telling us about parking with optional donation at end of road. But we then drove past the official park entrance. Official park entrance is a $7 per person fee and a required wrist band. Once in park we were basically followed around by "guides" and it felt really odd. There was no explanation, and nothing indicating why they would do this. We really just wanted to hang out on our own and enjoy the falls. But instead, spent way less time here than we hoped because of the uncertainty off what...
