We took Jorge as our guide on the Volcano Tenorio hike during the Christmas week. We were staying in an eco lodge in Bijagua that wants its guests to promote local businesses. So we contacted Jorge directly on Whatsapp. We bought our own tkts for park entry. Jorge arranged for us to be picked up and dropped off at our lodge. During the hike inside the park, Jorge showed us several snakes and a turkey sitting up on a tree. It rained during the second half of the hike, yet it was a fun hike. Jorge is an enthusiastic guide. After the hike, we had lunch together at one of the restaurants he knew. This is a hike that does not require a guide as the trails are well marked, but it was our last minute decision to include a guide, because we were interested in the flora and fauna and other little creatures, and it was well worth it. Jorge has a keen eye and is knowledgeable. The snakes in the photos are green vine and...
Read moreJungle Jorge wasn’t in our plans but we were super lucky to find him and spend the day with him. He was fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the plant & animal life in the area as he has lived there his whole life. I thought for sure viewing Rio Celeste falls and tubing it would be the highlight of our day, but Jorge had a few tricks up his sleeve! He was able to guarantee that we would see sloths b/c he calls around to see if any of his friends have spotted them earlier in the day (he knows everyone!). Wow did he deliver! We saw a bunch of sloths and even two mamas with babies. We also saw a bunch of frogs (poison & fake poison), and even a few venomous snakes. Oh yeah, then we had a private coffee tour and sat down for a farm fresh cup of Joe with Jorge before heading out. He was so accommodating and gave us all the time we wanted...
Read moreJorge is a must for the Rio Celeste tour! We arrived planning to take the tour on our own. There is no way we would have appreciated what we saw without Jorge! He is so knowledgeable- knew about every plant and animal in the forest, as well as the history of the location. After the hike to the waterfall, he took us on a sloth tour that was located within a coffee farm- we saw quite a few sloths, as well as other creatures he only knew to look for (frogs, bats, etc). After that, we then had a cup of freshly made coffee with him (made personally by the owners, whose grandfather had first started the farm way back when!). He is the true example of Costa Rica. Para Vida! We plan on seeing him again in the future when we are next visiting CR. Thanks again Jorge!!! -...
