Royal Butterflies — Attraction in Carara

Visited Nov 16-23,2024. Wow. What an experience. The own took his time to take my mother and I around (even when the weather was raining). Beautiful butterflies and the owner has soo much knowledge of the exhibit. I was visiting for medical and really appreciated the time he took. Royal Butterflies is a captivating butterfly exhibit located near Jaco, Costa Rica. He led us to explore a custom-built enclosure where butterflies flutter freely, offering an immersive experience. The tour, led by knowledgeable guides like Donna, provides insights into the butterfly life cycle and the diverse species present. The family-run operation emphasizes affordability, with an entrance fee of $10 for adults and free admission for children under. The treehouse was also a treat to look inside at his beautiful work. My friend and I were very disappointed in our visit to Royal Butterflies. We called ahead and were told no group reservation was required but to come early. I explained we were at breakfast and would come right afterwards. When we arrived there was no one to greet us. Eventually one of the Tico workers showed up and explained in his limited English that the owner was not available and was having back issues. He said he could show us around. I speak limited Spanish and my friend none. The tour was very disappointing due to the language barrier and the gardens had trees falling over and were not very well maintained.
