Barrigona Beach — Attraction in Provincia Guanacaste

DO NO SWIM, STRONG RIP CURRENTS, DROWNING RISK. I recently went to this beach with my husband and 8 and 10 year old boys. The boys and I were playing in shallow water when a large wave took us and swept us out past the break to rough waters. Had it not been for the heroic efforts of one of the parking guards (who swam a 10 ft log out to us) and another stranger with surfboard we would not have survived. We tried to get out of rip as taught however currents strong in all directions. I was close to losing my children...

While there may be strong rip currents, this is hands down one of the best beaches in Guanacaste. It’s always clean, too.

The beach is monitored and cleaned by a local named Jose. Jose is helpful in getting you a parking spot. He also keeps the beach nearly immaculate.

Beautiful, private, powder fine sand, many hermit crabs and a bonus waterfall right on the beach. Large waves, clear water. No services. 4x4 mandatory for the wide river crossing from the Samara area. Not a rental car...
