We spent an afternoon on this beach in September and it was wonderful. There were only 6 Ticos sharing the beach with us near the parking lot. A 5 minute walk down the beach gave us a the private beach without any development.
The road to the beach had some large puddles that were easily passed with basic 4x4 and decent tires. None of the puddles were more than 30cm deep.
The water was very warm ~ 28C. Do not expect a refreshing dip in cold water along this beach. The plus is that you can spend long periods of time in the water...

Visited in late June, during a cloudy day in the afternoon and we enjoyed a long beach with only eight people met (two surfers, one yoga practitioner and few tourists). Waves were stronger than in other beaches we met in CR but enjoyable to fight with :).
