Alejandra and Michael(the owners) are extremely professional and listening to Alejandra’s passion for making mead and the surrounding plants/trees make the tour fascinating enough to warrant a visit on its’ own.
The tour consisted of about an hour of viewing the property with Alejandra while she explains all the fruit and plants they infuse with their drinks, as well as a few they would like to try in the future. You are even encouraged to try some of these fruits and leaves which were all amazing or very fun flavors to try for the first time for us.
The meads themselves are unlike any other I’ve tried back in the states, including the imported ones for Europe. It was truly a unique experience and we were blown away with the flavor profiles of each mead.
The restaurant on property was fantastic as well, and was included in our tour which consisted of a 6-course style of farm-to-table food grown on property and the drinks made by the meadery are of course available here as well.
Things to note:
English-only speakers are welcome here and there is no language barrier as the owners both speak perfect English.
Wear comfy shoes as there is plenty of walking on the outside tour, including inclines and steps.
All facilities were clean and the grounds were well-kept.
Thank you Alé and Michael for the experience. Kelly and I loved spending part of our vacation here and listening to your story. 5 stars...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were vacationing in the Alajuela area of Costa Rica and she came across the tour that the Costa Rica Meadery offers. We cannot recommend this experience enough!!!! From the warm welcome we received from Michael, his ability to go with the flow (it was pouring when we arrived and part of the experience is an outdoor tour), plus the graciousness of the other folks at the meadery, we had a MAGICAL time! Their story is beautiful and each and every one of the products that Alejandra (sp?) has created was pure delight to our taste buds! I’ve experienced a couple of mead tastings in the USA and there’s been one or two options that I’ve enjoyed, but each and every one of the meads and beers that we tasted here were so full of lovely flavors that I couldn’t believe my taste buds!! We were able to do a quick walk outside with Michael at the end and then he recommended that we stroll through the botanical gardens (a MUST), and afterwards we grabbed a snack at El Arca (a farm to table restaurant on property). Michael was so kind to help us get situated at the restaurant and the staff there was just as lovely AND the food and drink were INCREDIBLE!!!! I wish we had more time to go back….Again, we can’t express in words just how wonderful our tasting experience was!! Thank you...
Read moreA MUST ON YOUR TRIP!! We did a 1 hour tour of the grounds with Alex (Alessandra) in Spanish/English in December 2021. Alex is extremely knowledgeable about the vegetation growing and even shared some plants/fruits from the gardens to smell and taste! Chocolate Mint leaves, Piña Sage, and passionfruit were among the delicious samples.
At the Meadery, we tasted several uniquely flavored alcohols ranging from beer to a brute! Alex explained which fruits from the garden were used to flavor the Meade they created in-house and which ones have won awards. You'll be pleasantly shocked at how a few of them are stored/made!
Overall it was an incredible, educational and interactive experience! 10/10 Highly recommend the tour.
