People are friendly and the guides are knowledgeable. This is also a complete tourist trap.

Edit to answer owner question. Nothing happened, the people are friendly, the boat driver was great, the tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. This is just a tourist trap where we get bussed in, taken on a short tour, told that we have to get back to the boat dock center because of the tides changing and if we don't hurry back we will get stuck, only to see other boats leaving as we're coming in to get back in before the tides change. So we rush in to beat the tides and not get stuck and did I mention that other boats are leaving on tours as we are rushing in to not get stuck? Upon beating the tides and not getting stuck out in the river we are then left in an area for 30 minutes so that people can buy high priced trinkets. Because this is a tourist trap I cannot in good conscience give it 5 stars. If I was reviewing just the people that worked there it would be 5 stars easily and I highly recommend that people take the tour. I do not recommend that they do it through a group that is forced to wait for 30-60 minutes before their bus leaves so that they feel pressured to buy high...

With a bus tour group, I boarded a pontoon boat on the Tarcoles River for a bit of sight-seeing. We saw a variety of bird-life, crocodiles, plants – including part of the mangrove forest. Foraging near the waters’ edge were cattle and horses. As we went along the river a few swifts hitched a ride on the roof of the boat, flying off every now and then and returning. It was quite sweet. There had been an earthquake at some point in time and one could see how the riverbank had been lifted up, revealing different soil layers.

Back on the riverbank we finished the tour off with some refreshments and local fruit. One of the guests quietly pointed out to me an iguana that was heading our way so I managed to get my camera out. Unfortunately I also had a banana to hand so the iguana made straight for me! In the end I had 4 iguanas around me and had to be careful not to get bitten by them due to their enthusiasm for food glorious food. I threw a few remaining bits of my banana to them and put the skin on a nearby chair. The first iguana ended up eyeing the chair, hoping to get at the banana skin but in the end I threw away the skin - much to the...

Shady run operation. They told us it was $45 and said they only take cash. We said we only had credit card, and they said, okay, and they pulled out a credit card reader. We talked to other people on the cruise and found out the price is actually $30/each, and we confirmed that online. Shady.

We paid $11 each for a basic lunch, definitely not as good as the many sodas dotting the roads.

We also found the tour to be very boring. It was supposed to be 2 hours, but it was just 90 minutes. It was rushed. We saw just three crocodiles and only just their eyes peeking out of the water. And we saw a bunch of birds we see every day in Costa Rica.

Save your precious time and your money and skip this tour. Spend it on a more reputable business and on a truly...

This was a private tour with a guide and driver we hired at the end of the cruise ship pier. The guide was funny and knowledgeable but over promised on what we would do during the tour. We did visit the rain forest, went on a riverboat ride to bird watch and view crocodiles, stopped for lunch (not included in the tour), and visited a souvenir shop. We did not go to a plantation where we were to see coffee, bananas, and pineapple. It was very apparent we were guided to expensive places to eat and shop. I suspect the guide and driver were incentivized to deliver tourists to these places. Overall it was still a worthwhile tour and was a much better value than a cruise ship excursion.
