Read moreThere are 2 ways to get to this beach, first trough water, if you ride a boat and then swim to the shore, this is the better way if you can use this one. The other one is pure suffering, this way you disembark on the general port of Lopud from where only the road signs will show you the way to the beach, so there you are crossing the whole island under the scorching sun, don't fall for the scam, there are signs saying taxi to Sunj these are lies, you can catch a "taxi"(which is a golf cart) only for the last part, you will see a line of golf carts where you can cath one to take you to the beach. Also some of the signs are FAKE these signs are out up by the taxi drivers they fool you to think there is more distance left to the beach so you ride with them and give them your money. The beach is nice, but please for the sake of your experience arrive before noon so you have a place to rest on the beach after that it gets hella crowded. The toilet is a disaster at least, it smells like radioactive piss from there and someone from the visitors told me that the stalls weren't working and that I had to piss in the sink, never going near that toilet ever again. But all in all considering it's the only sand beach in the region it is pretty fun to visit it, also there is a great restaurant...
Read moreSunj beach is a disgrace - the worst example of neglect and profiteering. Tourists drawn here by pictures of a sandy paradise are greeted with something shockingly different. Piles of garbage, broken furniture and discarded building materials litter most of the beach making it almost impossible to find a place to lay a towel. We were there in October, the end of the season. The beach restaurants were closed, so there’s some excuse for the untidy nature of the place, but it was clear that a lot of the rubbish had been there for months, even years.
How is it possible that the cafe owners and local government can allow this kind of wanton neglect on a beach that is the island’s star attraction, and the reason that many people visit Lopud?
There are plenty of local people who are happy to take money off tourists to shuttle them to this beach in golf buggies, but apparently nobody who is willing to help tidy the beach. Where is the pride in your island?
Lopud is a lovely place, but something has gone dreadfully wrong on Sunj beach. It really isn’t worth the walk from the port, and it certainly isn’t worth taking a day trip to Lopud just to...
