Plava beach — Attraction in Grad Vodice

By far the worst beach I’ve ever seen. Arrived on a Friday and it was so packed, people were spread all over the pavement and restaurant yards. There was no other parking available except makeshift lots in people’s yards, next to their veggie garden. We crammed a blanket towards one end of the beach, and everyone around me (locals) started smoking within centimetres of my face, even though they could see I’m pregnant with young kids and they themselves had kids. Tried going in the water and came back swearing because the stones (not pebbles, sorry) were so uncomfortable and my legs kept sliding down and getting stuck in them. The water was cold for August. The food at nearby bars was decent, but not worth the trouble. Having seen my share of European beaches, including pebbly beaches in the UK (which are proper beaches, though), I can safely say this is the worst I’ve ever experienced, and another beach on this coast came a close second worst. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why they’re so highly rated. But a quick scroll through the countless reviews, focusing on the ones dating back from 5-7 years ago and left by the locals, will give you a hint. Very very busy during peak days and times and you may find yourself walking a bit of a distance just to find somewhere to sit, so I would recommend going early to get a good spot. If you prefer a quieter beach, then this may not be the ideal place- but the view is stunning- a really great view of some of the islands along the beautiful Dalmatian coastline. Water is clear and the sea is very good for snorchling! Many species of fish and other sea creatures. But definitely wear sea shoes. Beach gets crowded pretty quickly and its rocky so you definitely need thicker mat or towels for some decent comfort. Couple of spaces to dress up, not many toilets tho.
