The place smells like old wet socks that you wore for 2 days on hot summer day, then kept in a backpack for a week. Every body that entered the place made sounds like “ieh it smells in here” in various languages which was more fun than aquarium itself. Very small, the aquariums are too small for the fish and the fish look unhappy and unhealthy to me. Many fishes just lay exhausted/bored at floor, not swimming around, which to me indicates poor conditions. Some aquariums are too thin so big fish can barely turn around. Within 10 minutes I saw everything. All aquariums on krk island seem to have the same issue, feels like a tourist trap to me. Reviews like “best aquarium I’ve ever been” are obviously fake. I feel like owners of this place are artificially keep review rating high because it’s impossible that this place can get a 4 star rating.

The entrance fee is excellent at only €6 per adult. The exhibit is lovely designed, with wall murals. On the ground floor, there are displays of shells, shellfish, starfish, and fish. The basement is very cold – around 18°C – so it’s advisable to bring a jacket or sweater. There are many beautiful fish to see. The smaller fish have plenty of space, but unfortunately, the larger species, such as sea bass, eels, and catsharks, are kept in very small tanks with limited room to move. You can easily spend about 45 minutes exploring the aquarium. I encourage everyone to visit, as higher attendance could help generate revenue for larger, more suitable tanks for the big fish. Despite this, the aquarium already offers a colorful and diverse variety of marine life.

I didn't want to leave an overly negative rating, because i understand that the budget isn't as large as aquariums in big cities. But a lot of these animals are clearly ill and need larger tanks among other things. The catsharks' tank seemed to be crowded especially. The seahorses right at the entrance crawled on their bellies, (all of them!) several fish had clouded eyes, and a mantis shrimp fell on its back while i was there, and couldn't get up at all even after i checked back on it later. I see several reviews saying basically the same thing that i am as well. It really broke my heart to see some of these animals in this state, and i hope that the owners will do something to fix these issues.
