Beautiful castle with rich history! So many architecture styles (romanesque to classical) to see in one place (and not just on the inside, but the castle itself). You're not allowed to take pictures inside (I can see many people here doing it anyways, but it's kinda sad to see that... ok do it, but don't share it - you literally have your name there :D). Even if you saw some pictures in reviews, it's great to visit and see it all by yourself. The visitation is individual, you can take leaflet (there are in like 8-10 languages including English, German, Czech etc.) or even a audioguide (we didn't take it, but i think it's only available in Croatian and English - check their web). Pretty much every room has their own board with info and map with objects located there and their names - very nice to read and see! Boads only in Croatian and English. Unfortunately one thing didn't go as we planned - water in the lake was drained since the end of February 2022, but you can still take a walk around it. However castle is the main thing there and the park is just a free place to wander around. Toilets free. Recommended!

One of the great scenic castles..up there with Karlstejn in ČR or Neuschwanstein in Bavaria, set on a hilltop overlooking a lake, making it hugely picturesque in all seasons bet especially amidst autumnal colours and in the snow. Inside the staff have done what, imho, is a great job offering a view of both the long history and the nature of life in a castle that makes everything accessible and consumable. There is a great little app that allows you to access short, concise descriptions of each room via your mobile, and there is none of the excessive descriptions of the difference in in early 16th C buttons comapred to later 16th C ..or hectares of obscure pottery shards that some museums deal in. As a result, its a place that informs those interested in the convaluted politics of the ages in an engaging narrative ..and there are suits of armour and weapons for those who want more of the "stuff of ages". One of the best historical museums we ever visited, and i congratulate and thank the curators for a job well done!

Wonderful, amazing place, just a step away from the highway, some kilometers from the Croatia/Slovenian border. A castle, which was a /Drašković/ family home, placed on a hill in a wood, just by a lake. Today it's a museum that shows us how they've been living that time... Parking is on the bottom of the castle, souvenir shops as well, so don't miss this romantic place. Castle itself is well preserved and renovated, exhibition is very intetesting, kitchen is a suprising part of the exhibition. View is a breathtaking, access to the castle pictoreus, with a nice small curch by the way. You'll enjoy this visit that makes you feeling like at your own home. Lake is same amazing story, so don't miss a walk around, or you may hire a pedal boat even. Entire place is ideal for a relaxing or romantic weekend. There is a hotel or private accomodation available. Pitty that gastronomy doesn't follow it as it was some years ago, although potential is great regarding family farms all around.

Trakoščan Castle was built at the end of the 13th century as a smaller castle (burg), the builder and the exact time of construction is unknown. The castle is beautifully decorated, the surroundings are well maintained, the lake or rather the pond next to the castle was empty in April 2023, probably due to the lack of rain and maintenance work due to cleaning the silt in the lake. Photography is otherwise prohibited in the castle, except in the areas pointed out by the guide. This applies to the rooms with pictures, where photography is prohibited due to the protection of the heritage, but you can take photos in the rooms with weapons, hunting trophies and of course the exterior of the castle. The staff is extremely friendly and offers a wealth of useful information. Nice experience. I recommend it to everyone who is in the area up to, say, 80 km. You won't regret it. That's why you're here.

The castle is very well kept and there is a very interesting museum inside, worth visiting when you are interested in history. However, the artificial lake is not there at the moment but there is nothing said about it (that is why I give them a 4). We just discovered it empty, with no explanations. Therefore the walk around the lake doesn't make much sense. As I could find out in the web the water has been drained out to analyse the sill and make some works to make it a healthy ecosystem. It would be nice when the castle includes any explanation about what happened and what are the plans to bring it back. They also offer an interactive guide through an app while visiting the castle but keep in mind the wifi is not working in the castle, it does at the ticket entrance, data for me was very limited and the QR code and internet link for the app is not accurate.

Wonderful nature, the lake is great for pedaling and to walk around. Or even for joggers. You can rent a carriage with 2 horses. The castle is well preserved and amazing to see how it changed during years and different periods. No photos alowed inside. You have restaurant on the lake. There you can also have just a drink. Pedalina renting for 30min is 30kn. You have souvenir shop with magnts from 16kn up to 35kn. There you can buy also some other souvenires made drom wood and food. There is also restaurant. Lots of festivities are held here during August. Entrance for the museum and castle is 40kn (kids from 7 age must pay) and for park is just 1kn symbolic price to preserve nature and have ticket for a memory.
