Four seniors were to go golf there on Halloween 2022 but, 20 minutes before going to the airport, we heard about the fire of most of the golf carts and lawn cutters. Apparently there was a poor connection to one of the cart's electrical connection. Also there was a delay informing the fire department. Anyway, we had cancellation insurance and came back in April 2023. Being seniors there was no way to walk the course but we reserved new US$20,000 carts at US$44 per person each day for 6 days. The greens were well kept but slow the first few days until they cut them closer later on. The reason for the 3-stars was the poor condition of the fairways. They had little grass to hit off of (no rain) and there was lots of crab grass that they used to remove manually. The sand traps had no maintenance with grass growing in them. The tees were ragged as well. The area around the 9th tee has been bumpy for years. But the course is always fun to play. We will not return until things improve especially with the carts. We like Richard, Idania, Victor, Eduardo, and Esteban who are eager to please. We did experience a few rude golfers who should have patience with...
Read moreI don't know how this cannot have a 5-star rating. This course is very well maintained, and the staff is super friendly. I believe it can be expensive to play, but get a resort that includes this in the price. We stayed at Breeze Varadero (which is now Los Cactus) and it was great. You have to pay for a cab to get to the resort the first day as there isn't a shuttle, however after that you make arrangements with the golf course to pick you up each day at your hotel. They come and get you in the golf cart shuttle. Each resort along the way has gates along the fence, so they can hop out and hop on the course again. You can also store your clubs at the course for free. It is totally safe, we have not ever had a problem and I've been back 3 times. I would say in that time frame I've played a total of 20 rounds of golf at this course and loved each one of them.
Stunning views from the 9th and 18th holes that you just cannot love. you are up a cliff on the course about 60 feet from the beach and ocean below and blue ocean as far as the eye can see.
CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK and get in a few...
Read moreWe played a round at the Varadero Golf Club, with the green fees being included in the Adults Only Level experience. You will have to rent a cart, which is $44 (US) per player, and clubs which was $33 (US). The clubs were surprisingly in decent shape. A word of advice is to bring your own balls. They do sell them in the pro shop, but charge $15 (US) for 3 Titleist balls. If you do forget balls, the first tee is right next to the driving range, so you could probably hawk a few balls from there if needed. The course itself was in decent shape, and not overly challenging (except for the 16th). The fairways are quite dry, consider the lack of rain Cuba gets, however the greens were in decent shape. They do sell beers at the turn, but no service while out on the course, so if you do want beer, buy them before your round, or after the 9th hole. I would definitely play...
