Update: been 3 times in 12 months and this is my new home they upgraded their food Staff is still incredible and they started spraying for mosquitoes which all adds to a better experience and gets me to 5 stars! I loved my stay here, the staff was incredible the weather was great and the price was fair! There were a few people from the staff that were so friendly and made you feel incredibly welcomed and part of the family! They would run up and give us hugs or simply wave from the other side of the room with ear to ear smiles everytime they made eye contact with me. *Lisbette & *Aldalberto (management) went above and beyond for our group even organizing a private dinner on the beach for us! Juan Carlos (front desk) speaks perfect English and solved my key card issue extremely quickly and made sure I got a ride back to my room after walking to the lobby! Michel (pizza bar waiter) was funny, friendly and always made sure your glass was full and was apologetic for any wait times. Irochi (buffet waiter) was great and always saved us a seat, got us complimentary bottles of champagne and wine. Was also really good at making sure used dishes were taken and glasses were full! *Calderon (entertainment) this man is incredible! Almost felt like he was a brother by the time I left, he gets the party going and dancing never saw him without a smile!! Dayeris & Yonatan (entertainment) were also great and helped the party get started, always smiling and very polite. Reny (mojito bar bartender) *Papa (pool bartender) *Yesi (pool bartender) Leonardo (snack bar bartender) I spent most my time at the pool bar and the team there was incredible! They party with you! They would dance with us, even spray us with water guns, throw the football with us and then cheers us with empty glasses lol (not allowed to actually drink on the job clearly)! Yonlit & Mandy (gardener - coconuts) were beyond friendly also! (In a good way) and they are all so incredibly grateful for any tips and gifts. Mandy loves when people bring him straws so he can put them into the coconuts! We brought a few packs for him! The room itself was nice but the ocean view I had was breath taking and perfect for watching the sunset! Unfortunately they do have a section between bungalow 19(where I stayed) and the beach that has some old bush and stuff that I think should really get cleaned up for cosmetic purposes. The beach was great but water shoes are a MUST they have a lot of rocks in the water when you first walk in, depending what area your walking in at. I think a racking tractor that extended across all 3 resorts that are on that stretch of beach would be an incredibly beneficial use of resources. That lack of resources was noticable for Canadians that take those resources for granted. For example the snack bar ran out of French fries regularly! Also ran out of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes for the sandwiches fairly often as well!! I do think the addition of a poutine at the 24hour snack bar and a pasta bar at the dinner buffet would upgrade the food at this resort substantially!! I never struggled to find something I liked to eat but I have to say I've been happier with the food at other resorts! Things I found they ran out of (even though it was short lived) was hand soap, toilet paper (some bathrooms), and vodka. The pool bar had the best drinks and I was confused and disappointed that I couldn't get the same drinks at other bars! Not sure why some bars always had sweet liquors and others didn't. Pros: incredible staff, gorgeous beach/views, party environment, pretty good food and decent amount of things to do on or JUST off resort (disco, market, spa, bowling) you can also rent boats for free! Areas to improve: Additional food selection would get me to 5 stars! Also not sure what can be done without damaging the ecosystem but the mosquitoes were really bad and need to be dealt with! Overall it was a great trip, I'm going back for sure and Id recommend to everyone!

My recent birthday trip to Melia Jardines Del Ray in Cayo Coco was absolutely wonderful. This wasn't my first time staying at this resort, and I am pleased to say that with each visit, it keeps getting better. The friendly and hardworking staff, the lush resort grounds, and the delightful dining options made our birthday celebrations truly memorable. One of the standout aspects of this resort is the staff. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine desire to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. The staff members at Melia Jardines Del Ray are truly exceptional, always going the extra mile to ensure that guests feel welcome and taken care of. Their kindness and dedication to their work are evident, and it's clear that they take pride in providing excellent service. The resort itself is a tropical paradise. The lush surroundings and well-maintained grounds create a serene and relaxing ambiance. It's evident that the staff and gardeners put in a lot of hard work to keep the resort looking beautiful. The attention to detail in the landscaping is impressive, and it adds to the overall charm of the property. Whether I was walking through the gardens or simply enjoying the view from my room, I couldn't help but appreciate the natural beauty. When it comes to dining, the buffet and restaurants at Melia Jardines Del Ray offer a wide array of options. While there were minimal shortages at times, I always found something delicious to eat or drink It's important to remember that kindness and a smile go a long way, especially towards the hardworking staff. The staff members at Melia Jardines Del Ray work long hours to ensure that guests have a memorable experience. Their dedication and commitment to providing excellent service are commendable. I truly appreciate their efforts in making my birthday trip special. We celebrated three Birthdays and all went off without a hitch thank you Melia Jardines Del Ray The activities pool at the resort is a fantastic spot to get the party started. The pool is well-maintained and spacious, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas for relaxation. The swim-up bar adds a fun element, allowing guests to enjoy their favorite drinks without having to leave the water. The entertainment team at the pool organizes various activities and games, keeping the energy high and ensuring that guests have a great time. Speaking of entertainment, the entertainment team at Melia Jardines Del Ray deserves special recognition. They work tirelessly to provide entertainment for guests of all ages. From engaging daytime activities to entertaining evening shows, they never fail to keep the entertainment level high. Their enthusiasm and talent contribute to the overall enjoyment of the resort experience. I would also like to mention Joel, Omelio, and the rest of the beach bar team. They were always friendly and attentive, ensuring that guests had everything they needed while enjoying the beach. The waiters on the beach provided excellent service, making sure that we were well taken care of. The beach itself is beautiful, with its soft white sand and crystal-clear waters. However, it is worth noting that there are some rocky areas and sharp shells in certain spots, so I would recommend bringing water shoes for added safety. In conclusion, my birthday trip to Melia Jardines Del Ray was a truly fantastic experience. The friendly and hardworking staff, the lush resort grounds, and the delicious dining options all contributed to making my stay memorable. The activities pool, swim-up bar, and entertainment team added an extra element of fun and excitement. Despite the occasional rocky spots or sharp shells, the overall experience at this resort is a true home away from home to me and am counting the days until my return

I spent one week here with my partner and would confidently rate this about 3.5/5 stars. As an individual who has been to Cayo Coco and Varadero numerous times, this resort wasn't half bad. I would actually return one day after I've tried a few more resorts. I enjoyed the food there and the beach. Pros: -2 large beautiful and clean swimming pools with 2 swim up bars -working AC, flushing toilets, plenty of hot water in Block 10 -cute ice cream bar on the resort -great mojitos, lots of water available at the bars if you ask for it -fantastic beach, just walk further to the right when you get there so you can walk right into the water, otherwise it is very rocky -probably the best food i've had in Cuba to date, lots of fresh fish, pork, chicken some days, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, fruit, veggies, great deli meats and cheese - neither my partner nor I got sick or had any bowel issues -you can bring Canadian cash and pay with everything with that, no additional charges if its in USD vs. CAD (double decker bus is $5 USD or $5 CAD, late check out is in USD but you can pay the same in CAD) -Was able to extend late checkout until 5PM (you pay $10/hour) so worth it for us as our bus wasn't coming until 7PM -servers on the beach were great, sometimes they came with fresh fried fish as a snack -free coconuts/coconut water shack, just leave a tip Cons: -shortage of everything: towels, toilet paper, soap, tonic water, staff, spoons, bowls, sometimes plates at dinner, bread variety (only plain white) -maids only sweep your room, don't expect a full thorough clean each time or fresh towels or sheets during your stay -only 2 bottles of reg sized water in the fridge each day if you are lucky -entertainment was always late, towel hut people were always late, basically everything runs late by 15-30 mins there -coffee bar doesn't open till 9am, if you want coffee you have to wait in a long line at the lobby bar. By far the worst coffee I've had in Cuba to date and I used to love cuban coffee -most booze other than the rum tastes watered down so stick with rum if you can -pillows are super flat, you will have to ask for more or bring your own, no duvet but there is a fleece sheet thing in the closet -if you need something you have to go to a customer service office to get it (toilet paper, towels, pillow) next to the lobby -there are no cigars anywhere, if you go to the market there might be some smaller selection but due to some issue with the government you won't find it being sold on the resort -no outdoor lawn games, they had volleyball and bocce on the beach but only during certain times and they did not allow you to check it out to use -phones in room don't work so you can't even dial or call anyone Tips: -pack the following: condiments, hot sauce, salt & pepper, ziploc baggies for food, toilet paper, soap, beach towel, your own pillow if you want, warm clothes as the nights are cool, LOTS OF BUG SPRAY, plastic spoons, cigars -wifi is only in the lobby -you are automatically booked for 2 restaurants, you can ask for a 3rd at the booking desk to the right of the lobby bar -some egg station chef's only cook 1 order at a time, look for the chef's that cook 2-3 orders at a time -you can ask them to recook your bacon so its crispy -find the pizza lunch spot, line up early and get 2 at a time as its worth it. We ate here everyday

PLEASE PLEASE DON’T COME HERE!! The bad reviews are taken down by the hotel and those customers have been transferred to other resorts. This is my 4th time visiting Cuba, and it has been the worst Cuba experience ever. This is only my second day staying at the hotel, but I all I want now is just go back home. First of all, horrible customer service. I’m not going to complain about food in Cuba. We all know food is not fantastic in Cuba. But seriously, waiting 30 min for cold sandwich with mayo covered chicken at a snack bar? Even a 3 yr old kid can put cold chicken inside a cold bread in less than a minute. They never open up their buffet at the scheduled time. I waited 30 minutes outside of buffet yesterday just to get in for both lunch and dinner. If they are not going to open on time, why don’t they just formally change the opening time? Why wasting guest time and asking hundreds of guests just waiting outside? I don’t understand. Does it get better once you get into buffet? NO!! There are always not enough plates so guests have to wait for the clean plates to come. Was never able to get soups because there was not enough bowls. Can they call themselves 5 star hotel even when the simple things like plates and bowls are not even ready? I find it so ridiculous. Guests are paying grands to stay at your hotel, so I want to say Melia hotel chain to please invest some money. Waiting in any grill section is frustrating too. You name it. Anything like getting grilled meats, pasta, omelet, fried rice, it takes forever!! For example, my husband literally waited in line for an hour just to get soy sauce covered fried rice. He was so frustrated to the point that we just went back to our room right afterwards. So unpleasant experience. When it takes that long time to get food, it means either the hotel is understaffed or the staffs are not fully trained so super slow. The hygiene is terrible too. Flies everywhere, cockroaches can be found inside the dining area, mold in parmasean cheese in the pasta section, mold inside yogurt, etc. I regret not taking photo of everything. There are so many other little things too. Toilets constantly get broken so that it doesn’t get flushed. Taking a shower with dripping water is frustrating. I couldn’t even wash my hair last night because it was just impossible with dripping water. We got our room changed this morning, guess what? Still the toilets are not working. Even more upsetting is that they don’t even apologize these things when you complain. When you complain to the customer service, they never say sorry. They always claim it’s not their fault. So is it then the customers’ fault? If you are sensitive to noise overnight like me, you will have sleepless nights. If you have a young kid or baby, it’s going to be even worse cuz they are going to keep waking up. The hotel turned on music in the lobby until 1am. And my room was not even close. I was located at the building 21, and I was able to hear every single lyrics of music. It is seriously that loud. Unless you are a party person, it can be a big problem too. Just don’t come here. Please spend your money elsewhere. Believe me, I’m not a picky person, and I never had to leave reviews for any hotels that I have visited Caribbean area for the last 8 times.

We recently stayed at Melia Jardines Del Rey in Cayo Coco for a 7-night all-inclusive vacation, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory or enjoyable. Firstly, the food quality was extremely disappointing. There were long lineups of 30 minutes or more just to get a plate of pasta, which ended up being subpar. Additionally, we didn't receive water in our room for three days, and when we requested it, we found out from someone on the resort that if you leave money in the fridge you would get basic amenities like water. It worked. It's unacceptable to have to pay extra for such essentials, especially when the water on the resort isn't drinkable. Furthermore, after talking to some of the the service workers, we found out that they are grossly underpaid, some earning only $30 CA a month for some of them. This low wage likely contributes to the lackluster service experienced throughout the resort. The 24-hour snack shop was a major letdown as well. If you were lucky, you could get some french fries, but even then, the options were limited. Thankfully, after being prepared, I had brought my own condiments like ketchup, salt and pepper. I was told to bring condiments but didn't expect food to be so scare. Thankfully I brought some snacks along with us too. The portions at the evening a la carte meals were light and not very tasteful. Breakfast options were disappointing, with mushy foods and a lack of basic items like toast. There were no eggs to be seen, just omlettes, but the line up was 30 min long unless you got there early enough. If there was bacon available, it was gone within minutes, if you weren't there right away 7am. Once gone, the buffet failed to replenish it. Diced Ham and sliced ham was present every day. When there was no bread, it was basically rolled up with thin pieces of cheese. This was the main snack every day and fries sometimes. The nightly entertainment was mediocre, however, it was disheartening to hear that the performers weren't adequately compensated or even fed on the resort. I even had couple girls ask me to get them food in the evening after a show. My husband and I were also approached near the pool one day too by gardeners. On top of all this, the rooms were not up to standard. They didn't feel clean, and there were issues with the shower backing up, doors not locking properly, and bugs in the room, including the relentless black flies. I was forewarned about the no see ums but forgot bug spray. Overall, despite the Beach, pools, and having great friends on the trip and a couple planned outings off the resort, my experience at Melia Jardines Del Rey was not as enjoyable as we would have liked it to be. Despite reading reviews beforehand and setting low expectations for the food, the resort reality fell short for me. The numerous issues with service, amenities, lack of food, and cleanliness made for a disappointing vacation. Air Canada who promotes the all inclusive vacation really should have their own team stay 7 nights to get an experience before they advertise the trip.

My husband and I traveled to Melia jerdines del ray in mid January. Knowing that Cuba is in a difficult situation we knew and understood things may not be at a 5 star rating. What we enjoyed. The Beach!!! yes it is rocky but if u go down the beach a little to the right it was heaven on earth. The staff!! Most of the Staff we met were so kind and willing to help in anyway possible. Be kind, they work long hours for little pay. We brought medical items and medicine which is VERY hard for them to get. Don't forget to show your appreciation to all employees! Gardener's, cleaners of public spaces, entertainment crew, coffee servers, ect.... The grounds!!! We loved the size of this resort, it wasn't huge but well laid out as it never felt busy! They also did well at maintaining it to the best to their ability. Sure things could be updated but that cost money and right now that's not an option for them. D.J!!! We really enjoyed the evening live music and the "club"setting they had in the lobby after the show. A great excuse to stay up and dance!! Our room!!! (block 15) was nice, spacious and always cleaned well. Sure, it could use a little TLC but we didn't have any issues. We don't go away to sit in our room. Food!! personally we thought the food was pretty good. Always had eggs, meat. Those complaints about waiting for fresh meat/fish is silly! At least they offered these options. We personally didn't like the restaurants that much but still was satisfied. Things to address: The flies! I'm sure it's hard to control but wow there were sooo many in both buffets. It made it difficult to eat and gross... Safty!! We were sitting the the lobby on a windy day, next to a storm curtin. Not knowing it was broken, it blew up and the metal bar at the bottom hit me very hard in my ear/head causing bruising and a cut. Worried about a concussion I went to visit the doctor after reporting to the front desk. They pulled it up so it wouldn't happen again. Next day we came back to the lobby, and it was down again.NOT ACCEPTABLE!This could have severally hurt an older person or child. I was lucky it wasn't worse. The report we made should have forced someone to fix it, or mark as broken and not be put down AGAIN. Lastly.... The last night we were there I got very sick with very bad stomach pains and felt it was necessary to see a doctor. Not being able to leave the room I asked my husband to call for someone to come, our phone didn't work. So down to the lobby he went... no one could get ahold of the doctor, they said I had to go to her (I was in NO condition to walk there) they wouldn't get a cart to pick me up from the room b.c they put them away at night... took the doc 45min to arrive to the room which cost $60usd to be seen. What if it was a true emergency! she seemed annoyed to have to treat me and wasn't kind. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and and would consider visiting again...but the safety issues were quite worrisome in our opinion.
