Throni Shrine — Attraction in Tsakistra

We drove for almost two hours to visit this place, and it was definitely worth it. This spot is stunning, nestled in the heart of nature, with breathtaking views all around. The chapel at the top is enchanting, and everything shines and takes your breath away. We arrived a little after 10 a.m. and had the place completely to ourselves (except for two soldiers guarding the tomb), which made it feel magical. The Throni Shrine is situated on the Throne Hill in the village of Mylikouri - Cyprus. This is also where the Tomb of Archbishop Makarios III is located. It is also where the procession of the Virgin of the Rain takes place. The hill is found just 3km northwest of the Kykkos Monastery and is on rough mountain top at an altitude of 1450 meters. It is a wonderful destination just a short drive from Kykkos Monastery. Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery.

There is a free parking lot conveniently located in front of the statue of Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of Cyprus. The path to the tomb from the parking lot takes about 10 minutes walk and features many beautiful mosaic compositions that are truly impressive.
