Historical chronicles give the date of establishment as 15th century. However, it is highly likely that this date maybe much earlier. Initially, it was a monk monastery. The monastery is an interesting connection between Byzantine style and Gothic style. The current shape built of fieldstones dates from the 18th century. Since 1965 is the nunnery. Presently is one of the largest monasteries open for visitors in Cyprus. Surrounded by a very nice green area. Located on the outskirts of the unbelieved lovely village of Vavla. Interior of the monastery is decorated by greenery and flower baskets. Very well maintained. There are two old and important paintings for Orthodox there. These are images of Saint George and Saint Minas. Saint George is an important and famous figure of the Orthodox church. Saint Minas became a patron of people falsely accused, travelling traders and caravans, as well as those who have eyesight. Nuns earn an income by painting and selling sacred icons. Also, nuns grow and sell the most delicious fruit and homemade preserves in the whole of Cyprus!!! Local honey, jam, tea and cakes. I tasted these lovely delicious and delicacies when I was there in November 2018. There is one very important thing. Shorts are not allowed inside the monastery church. This is a holy place.
