The church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary presbytery originally served as the chapel of the neighboring castle and probably existed before the town of Chrudim was founded. In the course of centuries of its existence, the external appearance of the church has undergone considerable change. Although the church had always had two towers, each of the towers initially were of a different height and shape. Viewed from the front, the left tower is named "Cerna," the left, "Trubacka," for the trumpeter who had his apartment in it. The latter tower was maintained in persistently bad condition. In April, 1630, the floor fell through and the trumpeter's wife died in the ruins. In May, 1702 the tower was struck by lightning, which ignited both towers and the roof, which burned up to the presbytery. After repairs, both towers were of the same height, and onion-domed. A terraced parapet bearing statues of saints was erected in front of the church in 1927. In 1740, the top of the south tower was destroyed in a gale; new repairs added an image of the Savior with a radiant halo on a shield between the towers. The towers remained in that condition until 22 February 1850, when the south tower was again struck by lightning, which destroyed the roof. Both towers were then topped with roofs in the shape of low pyramids. The Church repairs in 1857 were entrusted to Frantisek Schmoranz, who gave the church its present appearance.
I was a member of the Clandestine Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia and used to pray and serve as a lector in this church when the communist government was still in power during the mid 1980's. At that time, the church sanctuary was dark and only a handful of old women attended the mass. When I visited this church during the summer 2022, some 37 years later, I was pleasantly impressed with the interior renovations that permitted more sunlight into the interior and wanted to take a few pictures (attached). However, some woman, who behaved as if the church was her private property, approached me and told me that "no pictures are allowed"...

Interior doesn't seem to be regularly available for tourists, make just to peak a bit. I believe the reason is that the place is still an...
