Veltrusy chateau — Attraction in okres Mělník

Terrible experience. Paid parking almost a Kilometre from the castle itself, with a sign saying that access to cars and motorcycles is forbidden unless it's for transportation of goods to the restaurant/activities in the castle, only to later discover that there is, indeed, a parking close to the castle grounds. Ticket extremely expensive (270 CZK, 10 EUR), considering we just saw seven rooms, sparsely furnished, with a "paper guide" that was a bunch of clipped together photocopies, that we even had to return at the end of the "trip", that lasted us about eleven minutes. As if all the above was not enough, a staff member tried to inconspicuously follow us around, I guess to make sure we didn't steal or damage anything, absolutely failing at her inconspicuousness, and making us feel like we were at fault for something. Great place for walks and seeing wild animals namely the local deer. Great for kids and especially good for cycling with young kids. The walks in the surrounding areas are long and can be a struggle for young children. The paths are smooth in places with tarmac but other paths are rougher which young children can find hard going to cycle on. The chateau has restroom facilities and a shop but nothing else. The best season is autumn to visit as the beautiful forests change colour. There are lots of different old trees including some very old oak trees. There are also stables and fields with horses. Very nice chateau. Splendid interiors, marvelous park with romantic buildings. Pretty flat, so even fór thé elderly. A piece od history. Arts And crafts. Chotek family in full detail. Several walks, programs, exhibitions. Thé guides Are JUST unbelievable. Such broad range of knowledge od art history And history od thé chateau. And decent jokes. You can't get bored.
