A Fascinating Blend of History and Nature

Of late, I visited this amazing Park in October 2024 while in Prague .. The Průhonice Castle and its adjoining park, located just a short drive from Prague, are a must-see for anyone interested in the seamless blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Recognized as a National Cultural Monument and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this stunning site offers visitors an enriching and serene experience. The Průhonice Castle** is a beautifully preserved architectural gem with roots tracing back to the late 12th century. The intricate stonework, picturesque towers, and elegant courtyard create an inviting atmosphere, perfect for those who appreciate both art and history. But what truly sets Průhonice apart is its magnificent Průhonice Park, one of the largest landscaped parks in Europe, spanning over 200 hectares. Designed by Count Arnošt Emanuel Silva-Tarouca, the park is a masterpiece of landscape design. Its undulating terrain, meandering streams, and diverse plant collections, including rare rhododendrons, offer an idyllic escape into nature. The park's network of well-maintained trails is perfect for walking, jogging, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. There are also plenty of spots for quiet reflection or family picnics. What makes Průhonice very special is its blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, all within easy reach from the bustling city of Prague. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in both the grandeur of historical architecture and the peacefulness of nature. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, Průhonice Castle and Park offer an unforgettable experience. If you are in or around Prague, Průhonice Castle and Park are absolutely...

In the 14th century, a Gothic fortress with a property of the Lords of Říčany was built on the site of today's castle. It was in their possession until the 1490s, when it became the property of burghers from Prague. From 1404 it was owned by Jan Dubečský of Dubeč. After the extinction of the family in 1508 the property was inherited by the Záp family of Zápy and converted it into a Renaissance chateau. In 1616, Ondřej Hannewald of Eckersdorf bought the chateau from them. During the Thirty Years' War the building was devastated. In 1802, Count Jan of Nostic-Rieneck became the owner, who rebuilt the entire complex in the Classicist style. In 1885, the family heiress, Marie Antonia Gabriela, married Count Arnošt Silva-Tarouca. Between 1889 and 1894 the chateau was rebuilt in a Neo-Renaissance style. Silva-Tarouca sold the chateau and park to the Czechoslovak state in 1927, and today the object is not open to the public and houses the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the...

Zpřístupněna je zde expozice Průhonický zámek a park - dílo přírody a lidského ducha, pamětní síň zakladatele parku Arnošta Emanuela hraběte Silva Taroucy.

This is a beautiful park and indeed a big park... And it is very nice to visit this season - Autumn. As it really surrounded by great colors. This is our first time to visit this place from Prague. And it is not far from the city. To unwind and to relax your mind, walking and be amazed with different plants especially trees that you not always see in the city. Also the Chatueau itself. The entrance fee is worth it as well. It will be good to bring food and have a picnic inside the park as it has a lot of shed and bench to sit and relax while watching the ducks, swan and even koi fishes while under the trees and embracing the ambience of the park... Super recommended.... 👍✅🇨🇿😊
