I’ll start with the positives. The hotel room was pretty good. The room was clean and the check out is late which is good because it accommodates being able to play on the poker tables till late and have enough sleep before leaving. To call it a 5 star hotel is a bit of a stretch though.||Secondly. The cash poker games were reasonably well organised and the games were quite good. We were there for the PPC poker festival.||Now the negatives. Each day you enter the casino you have to pay €10. This in itself isn’t actually too bad because with that you receive free soft drinks and hot drinks and also get 1 free entry into the buffet. The main issue is that the buffet is appalling. The food is really poor. Also, the only other option for food is a tiny restaurant that has about 12 tables or the food menu that gets served at the cash tables which I assume is the same as the restaurant. This is also very poor but certainly better than the buffet.||The rake on the cash poker tables is incredibly high (5% capped at €20 on the smaller games and 5% capped at €30 on the bigger games). To put this into perspective in London where the rake is considered high the standard rake is 5% capped at £10 on equivalent games.||As a non smoker I really didn’t like how smoky the casino was but I guess there isn’t a law against smoking in public places in the Czech Republic.||I also had what I thought was going to be a small issue when I paid €10 in the early hours of the morning for the buffet only to find that there wasn’t any hot food. The receptionist refused to accept this and instead made me out to be a liar. I actually thought the €10 refund would be a formality. Getting done out of €10 was far less frustrating than being made out to be a liar however. I was incredibly angry about this and having worked in customer service myself for a long time if I had seen a member of my team speak to someone like this it would have resulted in at least a warning.||My friend who I was on the trip with also had an issue when entering a poker tournament. He got knocked out of the tournament so decided to rebuy into the tournament. He was given another ticket at the cash desk which he handed to the tournament director and was reseated into the tournament. After about 25 minutes the tournament director came over to my friend and told him that he was cheating and that he had reprinted a ticket himself without paying. My friend was apoplectic at being told he was cheating. Turns out the cash desk had made a mistake. The tournament director seemed confused when my friend demanded an apology.||In general most dealers were very good but there were a not insignificant number of dealers with really bad attitudes. One dealer in particular I would just stand up and take a break if he came and sat down.||Overall. The poker cash games were quite good but the service in general was of a very low standard. We won’t be...

Read moreWhen you finally find the entrance to the Kings Resort it looks impressive and that will be the last time you are impressed. I checked in and went to the 2nd floor opening the door the first thing I was struck by was the bad smell in the tiny room. I walked in and see two single beds made up together to form a queen size bed. There is no phone in the room and no workspace. The carpet was a nice colour but there is just no space, concerned about no phone in the room I speak to the receptionist I am advised there is no possibility of messages being left by phone and I cannot have a phone in my room and there are no rooms with phones. |The hotel is located in a town of 600 people and there are no other accommodation available I had traveled a long way to get here and was just shocked but it was about to get worse. The only two dining options are a very basic bistro and a buffet. I chose to go to the buffet and it was terrible. The food was just slightly warm bland food and very limited choices. The floor was sticky and glasses were dirty. This was also the breakfast option although slightly better than dinner it is still outrageous!|When I returned to the room I began trying to get some work done. This was near impossible as the phone network does not work either the hotel blocks it or the building has shocking reception, the hotel offers a free wifi that is inconsistent and at best is poor and slow disconnecting every 20 minutes. Sometimes you could not even connect to wifi. I had to walk out to the end of the car park at 3am to make calls and check emails.|The room window had to stay open because of the terrible smell from the bathroom. In the morning I spoke to staff about the cleaning of the bathroom where the smell was coming from, 7 hours later the room had not been attended to. I went to the bistro for dinner although the food was better than the buffet it was poor quality and overcooked.|The hotel leave room doors open when people check out creating a huge security risk and with no phone reception and no phones in rooms its a catastrophe waiting to happen. |I moved to another room because the smell in the bathroom was too much. In this room the room safe was not fixed or attached it simply lifted up and could be removed from the room defeating the purpose of a safety box. My room was still tiny and although there was no smell the phone network on my mobile did at least have the ability to receive text messages.|Despite prepaying accommodation we left early as it was impossible to stay any longer under the conditions. In 40 years on travel probably my worst hotel experience. Its...
