We visited the former Queen Margaret's Summer Palace in July when it is open to the public. We took part in a guided tour and got to see the impressive interior of the castle and especially the breathtakingly beautiful Dome Hall. The castle's guestbook is special, distinguished guests sign their names by engraving directly on the windows. We saw e.g. Winston Churchill's name in the window of one of the great halls. The palace church is open to locals and regularly hosts events that the Queen may attend. After that, we got to know the wonderful garden, which has been influenced by the Palace of Versailles in France. It was especially great to visit the herb garden because of its wonderful rose corridor. The general part of the garden is open to the public all year round. Great place all in all.

Fredensborg Palace, often referred to as the Danish Royal Family's summer palace, is a significant historical and recreational site. The palace is ideally situated on the banks of Lake Esrum, one of Denmark's largest lakes. Its accessibility is a notable advantage for visitors, being just a 10-minute walk from the nearest train station and a mere 2 minutes from a nearby bus stop, ensuring convenient public transport connections. Surrounding the palace on three sides is a meticulously maintained park, offering a beautiful and remarkable experience for tourists. Beyond the scenic beauty, the lake' proximity provides additional amenities. Visitors can enjoy boating and kayaking, and a restaurant on the lake's shore offers a delightful culinary experience.

Nice big palace and gardens - please be aware, that one can't tour the castle without a) a guide and b) booking tickets online beforehand. The botanical gardens and park are however free to walk around, and very, very well maintained, with plenty of seats, and a long tree lined avenue leading down to the lake. Note that there isn't very much parking in the surrounding area, so if you drive there on a busy day, you might just be out of luck, unless you manage to park legally in the nearby suburb and aren't afraid of a bit of a walk.
