If you are going to or currently are at Makadi Bay, and you are a bit disappointed with the corals / sealife, what you need to know is there actually is a reef that is still alive, but you do need to go a fair bit to reach it. If you start from eg the beach at Lemon & Soul / Labranda, most people stick to swimming the direct surroundings, and you do already see some fish, but to get to the good part what you need to do is pass by the point where the water gets dark blue. You cant reach it by swimming directly, because the water will be too undeep / you would have to step on corals to get to the good bit so please dont do that because you will destroy nature.
Instead, you have multiple options: on the right side there is the Pelican resort which has a pathway far into the water. You are not allowed in from another hotel, but a little tip does wonders in this country.
A bit closer to labranda there is another option too. You will see rocks that are going quite far into the water and you can climb on them, walk all the way to the back and dive in the water from there. Bit more adventurous option, but you won't regret once you are on the good side.
Third option I guess is arrange a boat that can go...
Read moreIf you want to spent all day snorkeling, this is the place. An extremely rich reef starting from Cleopatra pier to the 2nd pier and way further. It is a coral reef with many species:Spotted stingray/ in shallow waters, calamari, Flat Needlefish, Indo-Pacific Sergeant/ zebra fish, Whitecheek Surgeonfish, Pennant Coralfish, Crocodilefish, Lionfish, Red Sea Clownfish, Picasso Trigger Fish, Masked Puffer, Masked Butterflyfish.

🔺Be aware of the lionfish, they are active after 4pm , and I saw many of them near the Cleopatra pier where the water is deep The lionfish is timid, is not aggressive for humans and swim very slowly , BUT its poison can be lethal for us. His beautiful spinous rays are connected to venom...

It’s important to know that sharks 🦈 sometimes appear here. The last recorded attack on a human was in 2023, but such incidents are very rare. Personally, it didn’t stop me – I swam about 1.5 km along the reef into the open sea, and it was an unforgettable experience.
On the attached video, my snorkel actually got clogged and the phone case I bought at the hotel didn’t work properly – but even with those small challenges, the adventure was absolutely worth it.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature, the sea, and a little bit of adrenaline. 🔥

🌍 Opis do Google Maps (PL):
Polecam każdemu, kto kocha morze, naturę i odrobinę...
