I have mixed feelings. On one hand, many interesting facts and objects to see. However, the museum seems to be slightly dated, and on top of that - chaotic. It starts with geological information on vulcanos and the origin of the islands, then shows some animals and then suddenly we are looking at 20th century fish trawlers. I was missing some more information about the first settlements and earlier history of the Faroe Islands - although to be fair I did not manage to visit the outdoor part of the museum so maybe that's why. There is a lot of reading information so it might be more interesting to adults. Most of it is available in English. Its definitely not the best museum I ever visited, but I feel it would be a shame not to visit it while travelling the...

Highly recommend a visit to the Museum before you visit the rest of the islands. You will gain several key insights that will make the rest of your stay here even better. The museum provides you with a backdrop to all the historical, religious, cultural and economic goings-on in the Faroe Islands, making your visit to a Viking farmhouse or a cathedral ruin all the more impressive because of your previously gained knowledge.

Your ticket also gives you access to the open air museum, which is a short walk away and the open air Whaling station, which is only open during the summer months on Saturday and Sunday. Great value for money, that!

Staff were super friendly and welcoming, as always on...

Please note that this is not a child friendly museum. There is poor lighting throughout, little for children to engage with (which we have found to be excellent in rest of the Nordic countries) and I would suggest this is also not a neuro inclusive or disability friendly museum either. The staff seem to want patrons to pay and remain silent throughout and are forthright in communicating this. Please also note, there are not English translations for all exhibits. If your main language is English, you have a child, you have autism or poor site this may...

Although we were told when buying the tickets that there's a lower floor, which seemed obvious (see the whale skeletons), we were unaware of the size of the rooms below. Sadly we had only 10 minutes to rush through (loads of interesting panels on the main floor too!). Especially sad that there were multiple activity options in the subground floor, which we had to leave out due to our schedule. Don't follow our mistake! I hope I can return another time and learn more about that part of Faroese culture and history 🙂🇫🇴

Really informative. From fishing, to sheep, to puffins. It really helped give an understanding of the history of the islands. The collection of church pews were stunning. They were incredibly intricate and surprised me. The exhibit on traditional Faroese dress was fascinating. The ticket price also includes access to their outdoor museum that is a little bit down the road. It is valid for 7 days so you don’t have to do it all in the same day, which is nice. Highly recommend stopping by.

This museum describes the history of the Faroe Islands from it's geological origins, the arrival of the first Faroese people, and their lives up through modern times. Admission is not expensive. It's a nice way to kill 2-3 hours on a rainy day in Torshavn, but I wouldn't say this was my favorite museum nor my favorite spot on the islands. I thought the exhibits on Faroese church artifacts and Faroese wool were the most interesting.
