Visited in August during a rainy and foggy day. Let me tell you that the DKK 200 (GBP 23) per person fee for the hike to get drizzled on for 2h is not everyone’s idea of a good time. For me, the fee is completely NOT justified, there is a track for the first bit but nothing on the second part. It took us 1h45 to loop around and get back to the car park. They should have discounts on days it’s bad weather.

Now I’ve complained a lot but I still fully enjoyed it; and embraced that this is just the way things go in the Faroe Islands.

PS: I entered the following coordinates for the parking which got me there...

This waterfall is a hidden gem on the Faroe Islands. Seldom photographed because most people just hike along the edge of Lake Leitisvatn and up to the cliffs along the southern edge of the island. But I would recommend that you keep going to where the lake spills into the sea. Huge waves crashing against the rocks below that you can literally feel in your feet.

In my opinion, the best time to go is just before sunset. Depending on the time of year, the sun will sink right along the southern edge, illuminating cliff faces that stretch to...

So sad to see landowners near popular natural sights now trying to squeeze money out of tourists, with a new steep fee of 200DKK (27€) as of spring 2019 to be able to access the trail to the waterfall and the lake view point.

With Saksun now having the same private fee in place, I have to wonder if this is the right approach to deal with a rise in tourism in the islands. If the money would go to some state conservation agency, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but this just seems like...

About a 90 minute round trip at steady pace, mostly flat until the very end so not too challenging. Trail starts at the "Lake above the sea" marker above the adjacent village. There's a 200kr per person "maintenance fee" charged by the landowner at the trailhead parking lot. Annoying, and possibly just a scam but also the trail did need maintenance when we went. In my opinion still worth it if you're making the effort to come to the Faroes. Beautiful the whole wat and views at the end are excellent.
