Sørvágsvatn — Attraction in Miðvágur

Access is not free anymore in this part of the Faroe Islands. At least for the tourists. 2 weeks ago they decided to regulate the number of humans allowed to see this beautiful place : The landlords now require 450 DKK to walk on the path. A guy is waiting in his car all day in front of the sign to put the fines when you go back from the hike if you don't pay. And they told us they want to put a camera in the future.

Do not encourage this kind of abuse and just go somewhere else where you can hike in full respect of the nature around you... For free as it was made. How disrespectful it is to try to take an advantage out of hiking tourists... Worst than Iceland...

The lake is by far the largest in the Faroe Islands at 3.4 square kilometers. The lake has also been dubbed “The lake above the ocean” as the view from a particular angle functions as an optical illusion, appearing to look as though the lake is hovering directly above the ocean. At the end of the lake is the impressive Bøsdalafossur waterfall. The 30m high waterfall flowing directly into the Atlantic Ocean.

Se puede llegar por una de las rutas más icónicas y populares de las Islas Feroe, famosa por su ilusión óptica del lago sobre el océano. Recorre el lago Sørvágsvatn, la cascada Bøsdalafossur y los acantilados Trælanípa. En la isla de Vágar, se trata de una ruta señalizada y de pago (200 kr). Desde el pueblo de Miðvágur, se va hasta la caseta de pago que cuenta con un amplio aparcamiento, aseos y refrigerios. El sendero discurre por un terreno suave hasta el desvío hacia la cascada. Se recorre el famoso Lago Sørvágsvatn, el lago más grande de las Islas Feroe, también conocido por el nombre tradicional Lago de Leiti (Leitisvatn).
