This is a trail through a very special place. There are many signs describing elements of the life and inspirations of the great painter Victor Westerholm. First the path goes near the shore, with a great sea of reeds stretching far away. Then up you ascend onto the great expanses of granite and gneiss that define the landscape, scraped clean by the glaciers. These are not rolling stones, for they have gathered an abundance of moss and lichen. At the top there is an easily climbed observation tower, yielding a vast view of sea and islands, of autumn leaves scattered amid the evergreens. Nearby a grave cairn is identified by helpful signs. Yes, long ago a ragged band of humans chose this spot to honor a deceased member of their tribe. As I approached the ancient stones I thought I could hear a distant echo of the ancient drums. Nope - that was a wood pecker.

A nice and well marked nature trail close to Nagu centre. Didn't see parking but bikes were easy to leave by the road. The trail started with long duckboards ha continued in the forest. There were several warnings of snakes in the area, but we saw none. The trail was mostly easy. Around halfway, the trail separates. Strongly recommend taking the left path (the right path is an easier, optional route) as it will lead to a view point and a look-out tower. The climb is a little steep but not very long and there is a rope guide to the top. At the top, you can climb to the lookout tower and a little walk forward, you will find an iron age burial site (a large pile of stones).

Great place. Well maintained path, but still a bit wild. Good signage about the history of the area. Give yourself...
