One of my worse experience at an art museum.
While waiting for my queue, I was drinking my bottle of water. As a new visitor to the museum and due to the crowd in a small entrance we were waiting for our turn to hang our coat and keep our personal stuff.
One male staff tapped harshly on my shoulder which gave me a shock and then raising his voice telling me no drinking of water in the museum. I apologized and before I wanted to explain that I am waiting for my turn to store my stuff, he then repeated again that no drinking of water, DO YOU UNDERSTAND? Still raising his voice, which I've already apologised.
Appreciate he would approach with a no touching policy which shocked and it hurts (strong tap) and then raising his voice by repeating it twice sounded a little too much to me.
First of all there is no sign of those at the entrance nor the reception. Secondly, I saw some other visitors who are drinking while in the museum later. While the counter staff just walk past and did nothing.
As much as I do not want to relate it to the colour of my skin but I deeply disappointed with this place.
And if the museum is reading this comment, I have left my comments and my contact in both Finnish and English on your feedback form.
This will be my last time visit this museum.
Otherwise I enjoyed the arts exhibited in the museum. Location wise, you can reach by bus with a lil walk...
Read moreThis museum was originally established by the couple, danish-born husband Gunnar Didrichsen and his Finnish-born wife Marie-Louise Didrichsen (aka Hampusdotter Granfelt). Though by profession they were a merchant couple, their love and passion for art and ancient collections had given fundamental reasons for the creation of a family-hosted museum.
The location of the museum is very unique, just in the midst of a residential area on the Kuusisaari, which boasts to be one of the ultra rich areas in Helsinki.
The building is sitting on the hilltop with a fantastic bay-view.
The museum now periodically features different artists both domestic and international, among others, Van Gogh. The museum also has its own collections of ancient artifacts such as the God of Maya and...
Read moreI was surprised to see a Henry Moore work outside next to the pool, not being aware that there’s tons of his work inside the collection which was amazing. I loved seeing a few pieces of Kandinsky, Picasso and Dali’s work as well. There was a tiny collection of Persian artifacts from 800 BC to 2000 BC but they had exhibited it in a tiny hallway next to the bathroom and no one was looking at it. Such a shame, it definitely needs the attention it deserves. The book collection was fascinating, of course we couldn’t touch them but seeing a book with Nazi sign was horrendous and I don’t think it’s necessary to have it on display. That made the experience for me a...
