International Placer Goldmining Museum — Attraction in Northern Lapland

A wide variety of information about the international history of gold mining. Reserve sufficient time for the museum since it provides a dense and vast collection of historical facts and exhibits. The Museum also has an outside area with authentic gold miner huts and a gold panning course. Especially for families, I'd recommend stopping by and visiting the museum! It was a great experience. Interesting, but utterly inaccessible year round. Someone who needs a cane or crutches would have difficulties and a person using a wheelchair or walker doesn't have a snowflake's chance in hell to even get into the building, nor in or out of the main exhibition area. Went to do some gold panning while it was still outdoors (just before snow). At first the water felt like too cold to do this with your bare hands, but after a while you don't notice the cold anymore and just focus on finding the gold. Learned the basic technique very fast since the staff will guide you personally. Every one of our group found gold and some not so valuable minerals as well. Really nice experience for both adults...
