Entremont — Attraction in Aix-en-Provence

Interesting place. There were 2 large boards with detailed explanations (in general for the site). On a Monday morning in July, there were no employees, no security, not one soul. If you are afraid of being alone in a vast area with no sign of human company, you shouldn’t go alone. Closed between 12 - 14:00. Also, the bus 11 takes you from the city center to the site and back, but the driver I had was a bit careless. The bus stop was obviously only for number 11 and I was waiting at the bus stop, looking at the time table. He just drove so fast and passed by that I couldn’t even make a sign for him to stop. This site was wonderful. We almost didn't go, but I am so glad we did! The woman who works here with the Ministry of Culture gave us a tour and she knew so much about the site and was so engaging! The ruins themselves were very cool as well, but it was the wonderful tour that made this a great afternoon trip - if you're limited on time this fit well in an afternoon when we were all worn out from days of busy tourism and it was super fun and educational. Certains visiteurs se plaignent de manquer d’informations pour visiter l’oppidum, et pourtant l’Association Archéologique Entremont a mis en ligne en 2006 un site Internet régulièrement mis à jour qui fournit tous les renseignements nécessaires. Ce site est accessible par Google en tapant simplement « oppidum d’Entremont ».

L'association publie aussi depuis longtemps un guide régulièrement réédité intitulé « L’oppidum gaulois d’Entremont à Aix-en-Provence avec un circuit de visite commenté ». Les deux dernières éditions quasiment identiques (2023 et 2025, 94 pages) contiennent un texte très étoffé, plusieurs cartes ou plans, de nombreuses illustrations et beaucoup d’informations pratiques. Ce guide est en vente à l’Office de tourisme d’Aix, au musée Granet (où sont exposées les principales trouvailles faites sur l’oppidum) et dans certaines librairies aixoises.

Cette association a installé sur le site il y a de nombreuses années une vingtaine de panneaux pour guider le visiteur, dont un grand panneau avec plan du site et commentaires archéologiques en français, allemand et anglais et un autre grand panneau, renouvelé en décembre 2024, qui présente 28 photos de diverses trouvailles faites sur l’oppidum.
