A beautiful place which offers a very unique experience. Even though this is technically not a hike, there is walking involved on sturdy bridges. Pets are not allowed.

The walk itself isn't difficult, especially when one is soaking in all the beauty around. It's amazing to see the deep gorges and crevices created by the water. It's like entering a cave and discovering its nooks and crannies.

The bridge is narrow and at some places, only one person can pass through. So when there are people in both directions, there can be some waiting and maneuvering required. We went on a weekday so the place was not very crowded but I can imagine the narrow bridges posing a challenge when the place gets crowded.

There is a nice restaurant near the entrance which sells drinks and ice cream.

There are two parking places. You get to parking #2 first, but if you drive ahead, you will reach parking #1, which is very close to the place. However, this gets full pretty quickly.

In short, a visit well worth the time and drive...

It's a great natural wonder to see, beautiful, but the organisation leaves much to be desired.

The lines are incredibly long, we went in the morning and had to wait in line for over an hour. The route is also very narrow and there's a lot of waiting involved trying to get past.

At the end, you need to turn back the same way you came from (or at least we didn't really see another way), this means pushing through the narrow pathway again, some spots only have enough space for 1 person at a time and it gets tricky getting through with so many people going both ways.

There's very little information about the route and not much useful signage either.

I don't recommend it if you have any concern about it being very busy, if you have any complications such as pregnancy or are easily tired or don't want to wait for over an hour. Otherwise, it can be a nice experience and the rock formations are really...

I went in open-minded and found myself getting terrified of the heights halfway through. Fortunately, I completed the long journey and regained my nerves during the outdoor portion. By the time we went back into the gorge on our return route, I felt braver and was glad to have a chance to go through it again. Still a little nervous, but proud of myself by the end.

I noticed people who don’t have difficulty with heights had a jolly time the entire way through. If you do struggle with heights, you might want to consider your nerves beforehand, but if you’re able to push through, you’ll have no regrets.

I’m glad we saw it. It’s incredible to walk through—definitely worth the visit. Highly recommend.

The tickets also give you a discount at the...

Absolutely beautiful! Definitely worth the, in my opinion, small entry fee (€6,-). A nice walk through a steep and interestingly shaped gorge, where a narrow deck/bridge, suspended from the side of the wall, takes you along and above the flowing waters at the bottom of the crevices. For most of the route, the walkway is halfway between the top and bottom of the gorge, which gives a impressive view of the worn out stone and swirling river below. Near the end of the route, the walls open up and you get a view from just above the gorge. Looking down, there are many, massive blocks of stone that have sheared of the very walls you're standing on and have tumbled down into the waters. All in all a very impressive sight.

We had an amazing day there! We stayed in Annecy for a few days, without a car, and decided to go there by public transportation. It took around 1 hour by bus and we had to walk 20min (not an easy path, it was a steep descent which we had to go up after). The experience in Gorges du Fier worth the work to get there, the place is beautiful and it was not full of people, which made our pictures look so nice! There’s a small shop, bar and toilets before entering the park. Our card didn’t work to buy tickets so we paid with cash, keep this in mind because there’s no ATM there. I definitely recommend this visit! It’s totally possible with public transportation and walk but it’s easier by car! ☺️

Gorge du Fier impressive natural attraction was made accessible to mere tourists without special equipment and skills needed otherwise to go through such deep gorge created by Fier River over millennia. Visiting on a public holiday on the 1st of May, it was somewhat busy on the narrow path, but manageable overall. It takes over 1 hour to walk to the end of the path and back - there is no possibility to leave other than an original entrance. The price is reasonable - be sure to keep your tickets in case you'd want to visit the nearby Chateau de Montrottier. It definitely makes sense to visit both the gorge and the castle on the same day, given that the location is quite remote.
