The Chateau is a cute little one. Inside there's a tower and 3 'rooms' that you can visit. When we came, there were no tours. Instead there was an avian (falcon) show. Normally there are guided tours in French and English.
You're allowed to walk through it all at your own leisure. Unfortunately, the rooms don't really tell a story, they just showcase a bunch of items (i.e. the room of lace displays a dozen pieces of lace from all over Europe). There is barely any furniture, and no local history whatsoever.
In the middle of the château is a high tower, which you can climb. The view is very nice from the top.
On certain days, they host an avian show. The falconer speak only French, but it's still fun to watch (especially with kids). The acts are obviously aimed at the amusement of the audience (I.e. a bird running from one end of the courtyard to the other, or hopping on and off people's heads. Quite funny, but also a bit sad.
Overall it was a pleasant atmosphere and a nice château, but with little real...
Read moreYou have to wait and go round with the next tour guide, can't wander on your own, but it's well worth it. The castle was briefly owned by an eccentric collector in early 1900s, then donated to the Academie Florimontaine (who still own it and probably haven't changed anything much), so it's full of his vast collections of old weapons, eastern curiosities, ceramics, lace, huge Flemish tapestries, some amazing bronze friezes, and... Napoleon's death mask! An Academie guide did our tour, which focusses on the collections; very enthusiastic; it's in French, but a printed English summary for each room is provided. The castle itself is lovely and more coherently developed than the Annecy chateau-museum. You get to see five rooms plus the keep tower. Amazing 14C stone spiral staircase in Nun's Tower with steps and central rail made from...
Read moreIt is really beautiful! You can access the place by car, it's better to leave your car in the parking out of the castle and walk the path that leads you to the main entrance. You can see the the exhibits in the rooms that they travel you to the past. If you pay attention to the details you can see how was the life back then. You can access also to the tower and the view is amazing! There is also outdoor space and take beautiful pictures with background the castle. If you have kids they will love it, mine did..especially in the end that you can relax in the yard eating ice-cream! If you have time you can continue your trip to Annecy that is...
