Église Saint-Julien in central Domfront may appear modest from the outside in its 1920s concrete neo-Byzantine form, but step inside and you’re transported. The interior—overflowing with rich mosaics, stained glass, and Art Deco detailing—is spellbinding. The central dome, arching overhead, and the majestic Christ Pantocrator are breathtaking. Despite its relatively modern age, it feels timeless and contemplative.
We visited recently and were absolutely delighted by the quality and care of the restoration work. So much detail has been preserved and brought back to life—it’s clear how much love and effort has gone into every element. Walking around the Church, we were struck by the craftsmanship and beauty of the detail of the outside stonework.
A testament to early reinforced-concrete innovation, the church underwent extensive restoration after decades of decay, and now stands beautifully preserved at the heart of the village. Its peaceful, atmospheric interior invites quiet reflection, and the architecture—both inside and out—is a striking presence in Domfront’s historic landscape.
ImmerTwin’s 360° immersive scan offers an incredible opportunity to explore the space remotely, capturing the height of the dome, the intimacy of the side chapels, and the kaleidoscope of color through its stained glass. It’s a must-visit, virtually...
Read moreWhat a beautiful church, I walked through the door expecting a nice church but I was taken aback at how amazing it was. My wife was outside with Sox our dog I went straight back out and said to her you have to go and see inside.I am not religious but I do appreciate old architecture, to imagine this was built before any modern tools, something else. You walk through the door and see the huge Jesus in an arch then look up and see the ceiling. Truly great building religious or not. Also I stood there thinking of the people who built it, there lives in those days, there's an old shop front nearby where the wooden boards are still outside where they displayed there goods middle...
Read moreOf all the many chapels in France I have visited in France, this is my favorite. I love the brightness of the chapel reminding me that God is light, and good, and love. The focus in the chapel is not of a depressing Christ being crucified, but that Christ lives and loves each of us. Gorgeous picture up front has Jesus Christ with loving arms around them caring and teaching them. The words around are prominent reminding of God's greatness and glory and magistry. It had a peaceful reverent feeling in the chapel. Loved it, and I put this congregation up high on a pedestal for how they show they worship and adore...
