I have to give this resort a 3 star rating because it's how I am finding it. I'm an intermediate ability skier, so have found the steepness of the blue runs very challenging and frightening. I'm comparing with Les Arc, which has been my go to resort for the past 4 years. A blue here would be a red there. There are green runs here, but to get to them from Samoens is a real mission and not really possible for the people who need them to improve. If you are a competent skier, then this is a 5 star resort. If you are not, I would try somewhere else. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't want anyone to spend a lot of money on their holiday and not enjoy it, or worse still...

Great skiing resort with 265 km of slopes, 5 interlinked resorts: Morillon, Samoëns, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Flaine. The most exciting Combe de Gers with its dizzying 800 m drop and untouched snow! The blue Cascades piste running for 14 km from the summit at Flaine to Sixt Fer à Cheval The Marvel piste that provides beginners with a 5 km run through the heart of a forest over a century old. The Grand Massif, freestyle version There are three jamparks for the greater joy of beginners or experienced...

Good resort but quite overpriced, it has little to offer by itself and it can be quite tedious to get to other resorts in the Massif area so Flaine offers better value for money. Also, if you stay at 1600 like we did, there are very limited options for apres-ski, it's a very small place. Having said that, the views are great, there are a few decent runs and it is quite good for beginners. Accomodation is also good value for the Alps!

Great variety of slopes for all ability levels. The food available at Samoens 1600 is absolutely fantastic. We hired some equipment from the Roland shop there as well as a locker for stashing our stuff in. Went in very early March and while it hadn't snowed for a few days before the slopes were very much boardable.
