Climbed the morning of June 18th. Wish I would have worn shorts because it was warm out! Took the flegere tram up. After exiting the tram you take an immediate right and you will see the green via Ferrata sign and trail between the tram building and the outdoor cafe sitting area. It leads you down and around the flegere tram building. Very easy. Took 20 minutes on the mostly shaded trail to the beginning of the route. Did only the via Ferrata portion. It had a 20 minute hike back on the sunny side. No problems figuring out where to go or what to do. The via Ferrata was at times wonderful and at times a bit easy. So I would say 5 stars and perfect for a 12 year old. For me the challenging parts were spread out among the easy trail portions too much to be 5 stars- so 4 stars seemed about right. I would also have preferred more exposure, but the stunning scenery makes up for it. Bring a camera! There were a few walls that were near vertical, but good placement of iron rods made it no problem. I saw an older couple (65ish) climbing behind me having no problems. About half way up there is an easy escape route. It was just before the first (and short) cable crossing (I can't remember what they call those). So I actually came back a second time and took my 5 year old daughter up with the plan to use that escape route. She climbed most of it before deciding she was done. So we down climbed instead of taking the escape route. Most of it was easy enough for her to do by herself. The highlight of the route is the long cable crossing at the end of the route. From the fleger tram I timed it and it took me 2 hours 5 minutes to arrive back at the flegere tram. So maybe an 1:20 of actual climbing. That was solo, so I'm sure with a group and pictures it would be much slower. I would highly recommend it if in Chamonix. In my opinion if you are reasonably fit, have a head for heights, know how to use the equipment safely then there is no need for a guide, just rent the via Ferrata gear from...
Read moreThis is a great, short and exciting Ferrata! Our 12 and 14-year-old girls did it with us and were delighted. Some steep climbs here and there, may be an exposed corner at times, but nothing felt very difficult. And the bridge is a total reward at the end! We had a great family day out. We took La Flegre cablecar up, then approx. 30 min walk to ferrata. The Ferrata itself, I would say, took us an hour, but you want to hang around the bridge and watch the different emotions of people approaching the bridge :) Some poop their pants; some take to the extreme of hanging on the rope with one hand. Anyhow - it's a super nice one! Then, another 30 minutes down to the lift. And to mention the view...
Read moreWe came here for skiing. We had to wait one full hour online for the gondola to go up! On the way back we had to wait 45 minutes to go down. All because there are only two gondolas for 50 people each. So it takes it while. In the montain the pists were OK. But the difficulty colours totally loony. Some of the red pists are very difficult, like blacks and others not. Same with one black, as easy as a blue one. The food is also incredible crowded and you can be happy if you get a snack for a very expensive price. If you're lucky, you may pay even more in the even more crowded restaurants. If you know skiing in Austria or Germany, go there and save your money and...
