Our group of 9 made an unannounced stop at Chateau Ahon at the end of the day, because our children wanted to see the animals. I’m so glad we did! This is a charmingly hospitable family-owned winery, and even though we dropped in without any appointment, and were pressed for time, the daughter efficiently arranged for us to take a self-guided tour through the grounds, ending with a tasting. The walking tour was very fun! The placards along the way are informative and interesting, and you can progress at your own pace. The animals are charming, especially Mirabelle the donkey. We turned back rather than finish the path, so that we’d have enough time for a tasting of the wines. The tasting was pleasant and generous. Even the children got to taste a sparkling grape juice!
