Absolutely stunning - Visited here and we opted for a family pass costing 50 Euro (2 adults and 1 x 19 yr old) that takes you on the cable cars right to the top level. Stunning views on the way up overlooking Meije and its glacier. We also opted to pay the extra 4 Euro p/p to do the under-glacier walk. I have posted some pictures up for some of the sculptures and general views from the cable car on the way up. A word of warning for the elderly/infirm or those afraid of heights. This cable car climbs steeply and at times had drops of several hundred feet below the carriage. This make for awesome scenery but my girlfriend and daughter (who don't normally bother with heights) went a bit of a funny colour on the way up. The air is also very thin at the top, and it's cold, likely with snow, so take this into account when choosing clothing! There is a restaurant at the top which, on a miserable day is welcome respite from snow/cold/wind, but be warned it's pricey. 6 Euros for a plate of chips! Well worth a trip even if it does seem expensive, it's...

Unfortunately, although you mention here you always advice to take a return ticket we are most certain nobody adviced us that and we did indicate our plans very clear. Would have been nice if you had given the advice, then we only would have walked to the lake and back. Maybe instruct your personal to really give this advice. The question how long it was walking down was answered with maybe 2,5 to 3 hours, it took us much longer about 6 hours with a stop. Questions about the difficulty level could not be answered. So telling me here you always advice to take a return ticket is simply not True. Don't get me wrong, my first idea was to inform and help other people to make a right choice based upon additional informatie given by travelers. La Grave is a beautiful area and would have loved to go to the top, unfortunately not able because...
Read moreAbsolutely breathtaking!! When you're in La Grave and/or staying at the "camping de la Meije" this is a must see.
The gondala takes you almost all the way to the top at a hight of 3200 meters. They make one stop along the way where you switch tracks which is more green and has a couple of nice hammocks to enjoy the view.
The view at the top is the most breathtaking and they have a lovely cabin that serves great pizza and other things. And thats also the only thing at the top, no over the top tourist attractions or information signs. There are also no wires or barriers to keep you from falling over the edge which is of course dangerous for young children but it gives a really nice feeling of actually being on a mountain, not just some tourist attraction.
They have an ice cave too which is a must see a well, filled with beautiful sculptures which you can see for...
