Do not visit this museum with young children! As other reviewers have noted, we were followed every step of the way by security guards who stood menacingly behind us, and were rude and intimidating. It was impossible to enjoy or appreciate the exhibits. After ten minutes we decided to leave, and asked for our money back as the museum clearly is not, despite its claims, welcoming to children. The security guard refused to reimburse us, and would not provide his name or the manager’s so that we could formally complain. The two ladies on the desk were also extremely rude and said they would call the police! Absolutely appalling experience and we will not be returning, with or without children, and despite our love of the art on display. Read moreI went here especially for Matisse's work, quite bummed as I couldn't find them, not sure if it was me or the paintings are just not there anymore. Anyway I found other beautiful works and hey, Picasso's bizarre ceramic period 😆 so many bowls. But the most interesting thing was the information about how all these painters were linked to Céret at some point. Which by the way is a very pretty small town. But I wanted to buy a €4.00 magnet from Maison de la Presse and I couldn't pay by card because the minimum was €10.00. Oh well. There's also a Manolo's statue on one of the streets...

Well there is, and it is because so many of the artists of the previous turn of the century lived here or nearby--Picasso, Soutine, Dali, and many others.
