A very nice place to be and to visit!
You have the choice of simply walking in the garden, or you can go for the full visit including the guided tour giving you the best insight of this magnificent French historical castle.
Surrounded by wide moats, the chateau, built from 1606 onwards, impresses by the monumentality of its military style facades. It contains an architectural feat, an empty 21m high staircase, the oldest and largest in this technique, a must to see, as the original one built at the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris, has been destroyed when the French Senat took place in the building.
Take your time to look at the details in the sumptuous apartments, including painted walls and ceiling, tapestries and object from Marie de Médicis period.
Following the visit, the 17th Century old gardens, taking place over 10 hectares, will give you an opportunity to chill out, relax and why not, get lost in the labyrinth?

Read moreCormatin is worth the visit. The building, reminds me of certain chateaux in the Loire Valley. But Cormatin is 'living' full of articles reflecting its history.. Originally built on the same site as a previous 'chateau fort' to mark the importance of its founding fathers. There are lovely gardens surrounding the palace and a moat. The ticket office is a little grey. The person selling tickets a little sad and severe. A smile would have been welcome. Entrance cost 11 euros today which I suppose is honest. The guide who took us around was in fact the owner, since Cormatin is a privately owned. His commentary was fun and clear, although he didn't really want to give time to questions. It seemed to be a busy summers day 240820. The grounds are clean and tidy and toilet facilities good. There is no catering on site, cafes are just outside on the...
Read moreThe building and gardens outside is beautiful. To see the inside of the building you have to go on the guided tour (which costs extra). The tour is only given in French even though the guides also speak English. Instead, they give you a folder of the information prineted out in English that you are supposed to read as you go through which takes away from your time of actually getting to see the things on the tour. The groups are so big and end up crammed in a room a family member accidentally bumped into a wall only for the guide to yell a her "Do not to touch the wall, it's 17th century paintings!" Overall the WORST tour I have been on and I've been on a lot in my lifetime all over France, UK, South America, US and Canada. Would not recommend unless you want to see the exterior...
