Ax 3 Domaines — Attraction in Foix

Overall we had a nice day here in spite of the very long wait at Intersport to collect the equipment we had reserved several days earlier. The premises are nowhere near big enough to cope with demand on busy days. On the other hand the staff at Intersport were very friendly and the person on the reception desk for the resort was helpful.

The skiers in the party reported quite a lot of ice on the pistes but enjoyed the views on a sunny day.

As a non-skier I hired snow shoes and walked on the Bois de Manseille path up to the first plateau where the lifts arrive - the path was pretty muddy at the bottom then generally lacked interest with few views and the noise of the ski lifts all the way up. The way markers are not always very clear and some stretches of the path simply go up the side of the downhill ski pistes. It really feels like an afterthought so they can say there is something there...

Great resort that I will definitely visit again. We didn't see any other British holidaymakers the whole time we were there. It's clearly a bit of a hidden gem. There is a lot going to Ax; the lift pass is cheap but there are enough runs and variety to keep you interested. The snow was in great condition even though it hadn't snowed for over a week. C'est la première fois que je skiais à Ax 3 Domaines, pourtant je suis de la région, mais j'ai plus l'habitude de skier dans les P.O ! Mes souvenirs d'Ax c'était le chemin pour aller au Pas ou accompagner mes grands-parents .. pour moi Ax était une petite ville de vieux ! J'y suis resté quelques jours car une amie nous a prêté son appartement dans le vieux village! J'ai été très agréablement surpris ! D'une part le domaine skiable est très sympa avec de très belles pistes un peu techniques (ce que je n'ai pas trouvées dans les domaines des PO) ! donc c'est certain que le domaine ne peut en taille concurrencer les grands domaines Alpins que je connais, mais franchement un bon skieur ne s'ennuiera pas sur les pistes d'Ax 3 domaines ! seul bémol, les restos d'altitude ! il n'y en a qu'un ! après il faut descendre au niveau de la station et ce n'est pas top, car perso je trouve la station très moche, et les restos de qualité très médiocres ! UN truc amusant, au milieu d'une piste, vous trouver un ours ariégeois (un local) très sympa, dans un food-truck, qui vous sert des gaufres belges, et des boissons, on peut se poser sur un transat, pour une petite pause gourmande et se réchauffer avec une boisson chaude ou consommer aussi une boisson fraiche, c'était plutôt sympa et a comblé notre frustration du manque de resto d'altitude ! Pour celles et ceux qui aimes le thermalisme, il y a dans le vieux Ax les bains du Couloubret, pour une détente après le ski, et dans le vieux Ax, quelques bars et restos sympas !
