Wonderful private tours available starting at the visitors center in town. 8 Euros per person. Ask for Maurice as he is knowledgeable about the history about the fort as well as the city and surrounding island. This fortress is part of an active French Naval base so some areas are restricted and tours are only available with a special guide.

Picked up tickets for 8 Euro at the tourism office about 2 blocks away. Guide Elvicia was great, very funny. Wish we could have toured more of the fort but understand why we couldn’t because it’s an active military base. Minimal shade for 1hr 15min tour in almost 100 degree heat so bring a lot of water and maybe an umbrella for the sun.

I just missed the english language tour of the day, but pretty much enjoyed walk around with French guide in a larger group. After tour was over, we waited for rain to end with the guide, who gave me few more ideas what to see in Martinique during my next visit
