Church Saint-Vorles — Attraction in Montbard

My son and I were thankful to be able to view both the inside and outside of this historical church, especially since we have a family connection to it dating back to the mid 1500’s. My direct ancestor Vorle Godin/Gaudin was named after the church and baptized here. I had hoped to find physical records, but will have to make a return visit. Belle église romane qui domine Châtillon dont elle est l'un des trésors emblématiques. L'élégance sobre du bâtiment a été mise en valeur par sa restauration très complète. Quelques fragments de polychromie ont été préservés. L'intérieur qui a retrouvé sa clarté de jadis est assez dépouillé mais ne manque pas d'intérêt. L'acoustique y est fort bonne. Quelques oeuvres d'art s'y trouvent. Une superbe vue sur Châtillon-sur-Seine s'offre au regard du visiteur depuis le parvis et le cimetière, qui se situe à son chevet à l'emplacement du château bourguignon qui a donné son nom à la ville et dont quelques vestiges subsistent est à visiter absolument. On peut accéder par celui-ci aux ruines de ce château de a été démantelé sur ordre du roi de France au XVIIème siècle à la demande...

Locked. But good views of the town from its precincts. Also, the alleys and stairs up to the church from the surrounding old town are very intriguing...
