Very helpful and kind staff. I went to the museum specifically for the lady of vix burial goods. A little disappointed by the exhibit, it’s clear that the exhibit is still a work in progress. There was very little informative texts, especially at the start of the exhibit. The museum also displays the remains of the lady. The issue of displaying human remains is contentious at best, but even if it wasn’t I dont feel that the museum did it appropriately. The fact that the museum shows a reconstruction of her burial chamber just in front of the case containing her remains really emphasise the disrespect it is to have her lying on the floor,...

The main attraction in this museum is a beautiful large bronze vase, which was a burial gift for the so-called Lady of Vix .
The lady must have been a princess of one of the Celtic tribes that lived in this area at the end of the first Iron Age, around 500 BCE.
The other galleries have collections about the Gallo Roman times until present day and near the entrance is a section on natural history.

Un musée d’exception qui vaut chaque kilomètre parcouru ! C’est déjà la troisième exposition temporaire qui me fait faire plusieurs heures de route… et à chaque fois, c’est un véritable enchantement. Le musée du Pays Châtillonnais est passionnant en soi, notamment pour sa collection autour du Vase de Vix et de la civilisation celte. Mais il ne cesse de se réinventer ! Dernièrement, j’ai eu le privilège d’y contempler des robes Dior signées Marc Bohan, aux côtés de tableaux d’aventuriers, d’artistes… et même de participer à des rencontres et des débats passionnants.
Ce musée n’a rien d’un musée "classique" : il est vivant, audacieux, surprenant. Une chance incroyable pour les Châtillonnais, mais aussi pour nous, visiteurs venus de loin. L’accueil est toujours chaleureux, l’équipe souriante et investie, animée par une vraie passion pour le lieu et les trésors qu’il abrite.
Et que dire du bâtiment lui-même ? Majestueux, élégant, il donne encore plus de force à l’expérience. Un incontournable absolu....
