One of those things you have to do while on the island. You’ll need a rental car to drive up - we did see people walking up but that looked miserable but no doubt a good workout. There’s just too many cars and whatnot passing by to make it enjoyable. Once you get near the top (second to last switchback) you’ll see a small parking lot on the right side - my recommendation is to just park there and walk the last little bit up. The lot all the way at the end gets a bit chaotic and can be a pain to find parking and to get out of. Picture a bunch of tourists driving unfamiliar cars (inexperienced with driving stick mostly), tight parking spots, people walking through, ATV tours parking, truck caravans with tourists parking, etc and I just think the lower lot makes it easier when you are ready to leave. The views are awesome and there are some hiking trails if you want to try them. We grabbed photos and left and that was still worth the...
Read moreBelvedere Lookout itself is nice, it's just a viewpoint where a lot of tourist vehicles drive to for about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, everything we read online about the Three Coconuts Trail seems out of date. Trail signs disappeared at a certain point and while the trail is a loop, we ended up having to double back because we couldn't find the rest of the trail (we weren't sure if we were on three Coconuts or headed down to the Bay) and my boyfriend is an experienced hiker. I was hoping this would be a "moderate" level hike, but as we went in April and it had rained this morning the trail was very muddy. The part after the Vista, which was either three Coconuts or another trail, was extremely steep and tough to navigate with the mud. I wouldn't recommend the Three Coconuts hike...
Read moreA great view of the twin bays of Moorea, even on a rainy day. Also serves as trailheads for multiple trails providing worthy hikes. There is another overlook of the valley about 500 m from the parking lot along the well maintained trail. The trail to Three Coconut Tree Pass is a little over 2 km in each direct to an overlook affording panoramic views of the bays, mountains and valleys. The trail, although well marked and easy to follow, is a little challenging at times, especially if it is raining, with a couple wet creek crossings and lots of tripping hazards, so hike carefully. But the views make it worth the effort. Good hikers will take about 1:15 to get to the lookout and 1:00 on the return, even in water logged conditions. 3 hours round trip should be...
