This place is not for tourists with high expectations. But is gives a good view into the world of survival which many old castles have to deal with. This one is partly in use as living space and there are pets walking around. Some parts of the castle need maintanance but there is probably no support from the government, even though they build a brand new museum just around the corner which seems very expensive and doesn't get much visitors. Read moreNice for a quick visit. Pricey if you just want to visit the castle, there was an art exhibit which made the price higher. There were only a couple of rooms of the castle itself which were authentic and there wasn't a lot of info about them. A clearer map and better indications of how to pass through the castle would have come in handy. After the visit we got a bit of information outside from one of the staff...

Si vous êtes de passage en Ardèche, ne manquez surtout pas le Château d’Alba-la-Romaine ! Niché sur les hauteurs d’un village classé, ce lieu allie patrimoine, culture et convivialité. L’architecture est superbe, avec des salles historiques parfaitement restaurées, et une galerie d’art contemporain qui surprend et inspire à chaque exposition.
Mais ce n’est pas tout : en contrebas, un glacier artisanal régale petits et grands avec des parfums originaux et délicieux – parfait après la visite ! Et l’ambiance s’anime encore davantage en été : concerts en plein air, vernissages d’artistes, événements culturels… le château vit au rythme des saisons et des rencontres.
Un lieu unique, entre passé et présent, où l’on prend plaisir à revenir pour flâner, s’émerveiller… ou simplement déguster une glace dans un cadre...
